Abstract

Mucoviscidose is de meest voorkomende ernstige erfelijke aandoening onder blanken. De ziekte tast ongeveer 1 op 2500 pasgeborenen aan en 1 op 25 blanken dragenhet kenmerk mucoviscidose. Het basisdefect is een verstoord verkeer van zouten en water in en uit de cellen van het lichaam. De meest voorkomende ziektetekens zijn chronische longinfectie en slechte ververtering. Patiënten met mucoviscidose moeten dagelijks een intensieve, complexe, dure en tijdrovende therapie volgen om het voortscrhijden van de ziektetekens te beperken. Momenteel bestaat er nog geen genezende therapie voor deze ziekte. Er is wel hoop dat genezende therapie in de toekomst beschikbaar zal zijn. Dit boek belicht alle aspecten van de ziekte mucoviscidose. Verscheidene binnen- en buitenlandse experts werkten aan dit boek mee.
