Door de toenemende vergrijzing neemt het aantal oudere patiënten enorm toe en daarmee de kans dat fysiotherapeuten op allerlei werkterreinen (preventie, thuiszorg, algemene praktijk, ziekenhuizen, zorginstellingen) met ouderen te maken krijgen. Dit betekent dat fysiotherapeuten toegang moeten krijgen tot belangrijke klinische informatie die nodig is om ouderen met dreigende stoornissen en beperkingen zo adequaat mogelijk te begeleiden. Dit oorspronkelijk Amerikaanse boek (Geriatric Physical Therapy, A clinical approach) voorziet in deze behoefte en is een bundeling van een grote hoeveelheid toegepaste wetenschappelijke kennis over normale en pathologische verouderingsprocessen, klinische vraagstukken en specifieke implicaties daarvan voor de behandeling van oudere patiënten.

This book brings international perspectives to bear on thinking about and through transdisciplinarity on professional development and education. The scope of the book ranges from the idea of transdisciplinarity and its applications in professional practice to considerations of pedagogy and transdisciplinary research. A distinctive feature of the book is its consideration of key issues and concepts in the context of the lived experience of transdisciplinarity. The book effectively demonstrates how a transdisciplinary lens on the world can open one’s eyes to multiple realities and thus suggests how we might better understand the complexities and contradictions of our world. Indeed the chapters carry transdisciplinarity into new fields, on fresh grounds and even move into a post-disciplinary phase. Although transdisciplinarity can be traced back to the early 1970s, it has often been at the margins, and is highly contested as an approach to knowledge creation within academia, and has yet to make a major impact outside the confines of the university. Instead, knowledge creation, recognition and use have been usually been approached from the structured certainty of subject disciplinary knowledge. This book studies higher education and professional identity from the premise that disciplinarity and transdisciplinarity are complementary aspects of a single, more complex whole: routine scholarly work. Can transdisciplinary be taught and if so, how can it be applied to professional practice? The answers assembled here come from a variety of professional backgrounds. Based on insightful personal experience they offer reflective advice on integrating transdisciplinarity into teaching, research and the workplace. ConieD is the biannual Congress on Computers in Education, organised by the Spanish Association for the Development of Computers in Education (ADIE). The last Congress, held in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), brought together researchers in different areas, ranging from web applications, educational environments, or Human-Computer Interaction to Artificial Intelligence in Education. The common leitmotiv of the major part of the lectures was the World Wide Web. In particular, the focus was on the real possibilities that this media presents in order to make the access of students to educational resources possible anywhere and anytime. This fact was highlighted in the Conclusions of the Congress following this Preface as the Introduction. From the full 92 papers presented to the Programme Committee we have selected the best 24 papers that we are presenting in this book. The selection of papers was a very difficult process, taking into account that the papers presented in the Congress (60) were all good enough to appear in this book. Only the restrictions of the extension of this book have limited the number of papers to 24. These papers represent the current high-quality contributions of Spanish research groups in Computers in Education.
