The architect and researcher Elie al-Ashkar sheds new light on the transformations experienced Beirut from mid XXth century to the 1990s.His work is interested in the relationship between the Beirut landscape and urban regulation, of which he details the strengths and weaknesses. In this collection of essays, we reflect on what it means to practise the social sciences in the twenty-first century. The book brings together leading social scientists from the Asia-Pacific region.
