Esta publicação apresenta um estudo introdutório e didáctico à leitura de As Báquides de Plauto, no qual se analisam o contexto e as características da peça, a estrutura e as personagens, e ainda o problema da originalidade plautina na conceptualização do 'terceiro engano'. This publication presents an introductory study, of didactic nature, to Plautus' Bacchides. Aspects related to the context, the characteristics, the structure and the characters of the play are discussed, as well as the problem of Plautus' originality regarding the creation of the 'third deception'.

La figura del Anticristo es muy importante en las Sagradas Escrituras, pero su importancia crece con los escoliastas y tratadistas de la edad media. Entre los principales libros sobre el asunto se cuenta el "Drama del Anticristo", escrito en el siglo XII, entre 1160 y 1186, en la abadía benedictina de Tegernsee en los Alpes de Baviera, por un monje cuyo nombre se desconoce. Luis Astey, especialista en textos medievales, y de quien El Colegio de México ha publicado anteriormente "Dramas litúrgicos del Occidente medieval", una de las investigaciones más importantes sobre el tema realizadas hasta ahora, se encontraba trabajando en diferentes versiones de textos de la época a su muerte. Como una manera de rendirle homenaje y poner al alcance del lector estos textos, se publicó en 1999 "Las ocho leyendas de Hrotsvitha de Gandersheim" y se publica ahora este libro en versión bilingüe. Astey consideraba este texto en proceso, pero aún así la calidad de la versión hace pertinente su publicación, a la cual acompañan un prólogo de otro importante especialista en el tema, Mauricio Beuchot, y un apéndice que incluye un texto del propio Astey situando el camino que va de "Las ocho leyendas" al "Drama del Anticristo".

Die vorliegende Monographie ist einer zentralen Figur der griechischen und römischen Komödie gewidmet: der Hetäre. Dabei untersucht die Autorin sowohl die nur fragmentarisch erhalten Stücke der griechischen Komödie, als auch vor allem komplett erhaltene Stücke von Aristophanes, Menander, Plautus und Terenz. Ein solcher Gesamtüberblick ist neu. Die hetaira ist eine griechische Prostituierte meist der gehobenen Art; Sie ist eine ‚Gefährtin‘, während ihr römisches Pendant meretrix auf das ‚Verdienen‘ reduziert ist. Die begrifflichen spiegeln die soziokulturellen Unterschiede wider: In der attischen Gesellschaft des 5., 4. und 3. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. konnten Hetären eine – verglichen mit römischen oder heutigen Verhältnissen – herausragende Rolle spielen. Aspasia, die Geliebte und zweite Frau des Perikles, ist ein berühmtes Beispiel. In Rom jedoch ist die Prostitution zunächst auf Bordelle beschränkt. Meretrices spielen als offizielle Freundinnen einflußreicher Politiker noch keine Rolle; ein römisches Gegenstück zu Aspasia gibt es um 200 v. Chr. zu Plautus’, aber auch eine Generation später zu Terenz’ Zeit noch nicht. Die unterschiedlichen gesellschaftlichen Voraussetzungen bedingen die jeweilige literarische Umsetzung: Während die griechische Komödie reale gesellschaftliche Verhältnisse abbildet, spielen die Komödien von Plautus und Terenz in einer irrealen Welt: Sie sind vor dem geistigen Hintergrund der Saturnalien erklärbar, jener antiken Form des Karnevals, bei der Sklaven und Herren für einen Tag die Rollen tauschten. Schwerpunkte der Untersuchung sind Menander, Plautus und Terenz. In den Menander-Komödien dominiert die Figur der ‚guten‘ Hetäre, die in die Handlung eingreift und anderen selbstlos zu ihrem Recht verhilft. Bei Plautus hingegen steht die Figur der mala meretrix im Vordergrund, die in saturnalischer Weise über ihre sie gesellschaftlich weit übertreffenden Liebhaber triumphiert. Politics and Aesthetics in European Baroque and Classicist Tragedy is a volume of essays investigating European tragedy in the seventeenth century, comparing Shakespeare, Vondel, Gryphius, Racine and several other vernacular tragedians, together with consideration of neo-Latin dramas by Jesuits and other playwrights. To what extent were similar themes, plots, structures and styles elaborated? How is difference as well as similarity to be accounted for? European drama is beginning to be considered outside of the singular vernacular frameworks in which it has been largely confined (as instanced in the conferences and volumes of essays held in the Universities of Munich and Berlin 2010-12), but up-to-date secondary material is sparse and difficult to obtain. This volume intends to help remedy that deficit by addressing the drama in a full political, religious, legal and social context, and by considering the plays as interventions in those contexts.
