Der vorliegende Band thematisiert Rolle und Selbstwahrnehmung der Archivare zwischen dem späten Kaiserreich und dem Ende der Weimarer Republik, einer Zeit rasanter Veränderungen in politischer, historiografischer und wissensgeschichtlicher Hinsicht. Mit dieser chronologischen Perspektivierung trägt der Band einerseits der politischen und institutionellen Tatsache Rechnung, dass der politische und staatsrecht-liche Umbruch am Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges die organisatorischen und institutionel-len Grundlagen des Archivwesens massiv beeinflusste. Andererseits möchte der Band dezidiert eine Verengung allein auf den politisch-staatlichen Systemwechsel vermeiden, denn keineswegs alle prägenden Entwicklungen des deutschen Archivwesens dieser Zeit lassen sich auf diese Ebene zurückführen.

Towards the end of the 20th century the Italian literature created outside Italy finally started to receive proper attention, because research began to focus on the socio-cultural analysis of the different forms of internal and external postcolonialism. As a result, both imperialism and nationalism are seen as responsible for phenomena of cultural alienation in many territories outside as well as inside the national borders of the country and are exposed as ideological constructs. Nevertheless research still neglects the one undoubtedly outstanding region in the production of Italian literature outside Italy, ie Austria, more precisely the territories of the Habsburg Monarchy, where for nearly 500 years - from early Humanism to the First World War - the tradition was the richest in quantity as well as in quality. This first part of a comprehensive history of the Italian literature created in Austria for an Austrian public has been written with the intention of filling this gap. The unique position the Italian language held at Vienna's imperial court at least from the middle of the 17th to the middle of the 18th century is well known: Italian was not only an official language for the purpose of representation, it also served as a vehicle of cultural communication in the inner circle of the imperial family. The numerous political connections between the House of Habsburg and the ruling Italian dynasties are a major reason for the manifold cultural transfers between the Austrian territories and the Italian States. The great number of strategic marriages led to intense cultural as well as economical relations, which obviously did result in occasional implications in territorial conflicts and in military alliances not always favorable to the mutual understanding. As a consequence of the above mentioned economical and dynastical connections the Habsburgs often intervened politically in Italy, first in the Early Modern Period, especially during the reigns of Charles V and Ferdinand I. Two centuries later, the Habsburg administration of the Kingdom of Naples ( 1707-1734) as well as of Lombardy during most of the 18th century (1714-1797) was decisive for the continuation of those interchanges, which ended however, when the Italian movement of unification began to create a totally new situation. Humanism, baroque and enlightenment, three currents which are amply discussed in the present volume, could more easily expand from Italy to Austria because of the before described dynastical connections and they established themselves still deeper because of the immigration or the long stays of Italian authors in the cultural centers of the Austrian monarchy, first of all of course in Vienna. Not surprisingly however, we possess so far only an inadequate and unsystematic documentation of the activities and literary productions of the great majority of those authors: As is well known, the 19th century created a nationalistic base for literary studies, a view which still for a long time influenced the 20th century for a long time. The Italian authors working and publishing in Austria did so in their own language, but in a foreign country and for a foreign sovereign.

Le rôle que joue Lyon au xvie siècle dans l’étude de la langue hébraïque n’a jamais été étudié. L’hébraïsme chrétien, qui est partie intégrante de l’humanisme chrétien, a cependant connu sa période de gloire à Lyon. Plusieurs grandes figures s’y sont illustrées, telle que l’hébraïsant Sante Pagnini, qui a travaillé en étroite collaboration d’abord avec l’ imprimeur Antoine Du Ry, puis avec Sébastien Gryphe, durant la première moitié du siècle. Plus tard leur feront écho d’autres figures de l’hébraïsme lyonnais comme celle de Pierre Davantès et de Pierre Coustau, ainsi que les imprimeurs Macé Bonhomme et la dynastie des de Tournes. Cet hébraïsme s’est également étendu à l’enseignement de la langue dans les collèges de la ville et de sa proximité comme celui de Tournon, et atteste l’existence de courants humanistes « importés » du reste de l’Europe. Il importait donc de procéder au recensement des publications lyonnaises du xvie siècle contenant de l’hébreu : grammaires, dictionnaires, ouvrages de référence. Mais aussi citations, pièces de vers, devises, et mots isolés.

The volume contains a critical review of data, results and open problems concerning the principal Greek and Coptic majuscule bookhands, based on previous research of the author, revised and updated to offer an overview of the different graphic phenomena. Although the various chapters address the history of different types of scripts (i.e. biblical majuscule, sloping poitend majuscule, liturgical majuscule, epigraphic and monumental scripts), their juxtaposition allows us to identify common issues of the comparative method of palaeography. From an overall critical assessment of these aspects the impossibility of applying a unique historical paradigm to interpret the formal expressions and the history of the different bookhands comes up, due to the fact that each script follows different paths. Particular attention is also devoted to the use of Greek majuscules in the writing of ancient Christian books. A modern and critical awareness of palaeographic method may help to place the individual witnesses in the context of the main graphic trends, in the social and cultural environments in which they developed, and in a more accurate chronological framework.

Copiés sur parchemin ou sur papier, évangéliaires et recueils liturgiques s’ouvrent sur de magnifiques frontispices et se parent de miniatures aux couleurs vives illustrant les scènes de l’Ancien et du Nouveau Testament ou la vie des saints. Le fonds arménien de la Bibliothèque nationale de France est aujourd’hui riche de quelque 350 manuscrits et, pour les XVIe et XVIIe siècles, de près de 70 % de la production de livres imprimés. Pays à la géographie tourmentée ravagé par les invasions successives, l’Arménie, premier État converti au christianisme, s’est construite tout entière autour d’une religion et d’une langue. L’alphabet arménien, inventé au Ve siècle pour lire et traduire la Bible, déploie ici ses différents styles, tandis que dans les marges lettrines et lettres ornementées prennent la forme de végétaux ou d’animaux fantastiques. À partir du XVIe siècle, alors que se perpétue encore la tradition manuscrite, les premières imprimeries, installées alors en Europe, éditent, pour les marchands arméniens qui sillonnent le monde, des livres de dévotion et de divertissement agrémentés de gravures. L’impression de la Bible en arménien en 1666 à Amsterdam constitue un événement éditorial, que renforce la parution de nombreux ouvrages religieux mais aussi d’érudition et de littérature permettant, tant en Orient qu’en Occident, une plus large diffusion du patrimoine culturel arménien. La cinquantaine de pièces présentées, acquises dès le règne de François Ier puis principalement sous celui de Louis XV, témoignent de la constance de l’intérêt et de la curiosité que suscitent depuis toujours l’Arménie et sa culture en France.
