"The need for an immediate, transparent and sustainable dissemination of current research has become a prerequisite for the further development of science today. Making research results freely available online as Open Access is considered to achieve the widest possible dissemination worldwide. Everyone can access anywhere Open Access publications without any restrictions or paywalls. Meanwhile more and more academic institutions and universities have already started their own presses to publish books Open Access. In the present manual a sustainable and ideal workflow for producing and publishing academic books is presented. That workflow enables universities to publish their publications both as Open Access and printed books in a state-of-theart way and without any restrictions regarding the license, the variety of formats, print run etc. As proof of concepts we have processed different use cases which demonstrates the current status of the technically and economically possibilities in the publishing sector. Furthermore, data on time, costs and personnel resources were determined, which can be used by other universities and academic institutions to indicate the necessary investments for founding and operation of their own Open Access university presses.". Das vorliegende Dokument stellt eine Ergänzung zur im März 2020 erschienenen Publikation "Open-Access-Publikationsworkflow für akademische Bücher. Ein Handbuch für Hochschulen und Universitäten" von David Böhm, Alexander Grossmann, Michael Reiche und Antonia Schrader dar. Das Handbuch beschreibt einen nachhaltigen, allgemeingültigen State-of-the-Art-Workflow zur Herstellung und Distribution von akademischen Büchern, der es Hochschulen und Universitäten ermöglicht, bei weitest möglicher Verbreitung, Sichtbarkeit und Zugänglichkeit eigene Forschungsarbeiten und Graduierungsschriften in digitaler Form im Open Access (OA) und als gedrucktes Buch zu veröffentlichen. Dieses Workflow-Modell wird anhand ausgewählter Fallbeispiele als Proof of Concept demonstriert und spiegelt den aktuellen Stand der derzeit im Verlagsbereich technischen und wirtschaftlichen Möglichkeiten wider. Anhand der Fallbeispiele wurden zudem der Zeit-, Kosten- und Personalaufwand erfasst, sodass anderen Hochschulen und Universitäten Anhaltspunkte für nötige Investitionen bei der Gründung und dem Betrieb eigener OA-Hochschulverlage gegeben werden. Als Ergänzung zu den Kapiteln 4.3, 4.4.1 und 4.4.2 sowie Anhang C und D der bereits erschienenen Publikation, werden nachfolgend die Durchführung der Fallbeispiele 4 und 5, die erhobenen Daten zu diesen Fällen, die Ergebnisse der Datenanalyse und die Ladenpreiskalkulation für Fall 4 beschrieben. In diesem Dokument wird sich v. a. auf das im Hauptwerk vorgestellte Workflow-Modell (Kapitel 3), die Workflow-Rollen (Kapitel 3), beauftragten Dienstleister (Kapitel 4) und entwickelten Qualitätsrichtlinien (Anhang A) und Checklisten (Anhang B) bezogen. Für das Verständnis dieses Dokumentes ist das Hauptwerk daher unabdingbar.

"Since 2012, the subsequent reinforcement of reinforced concrete components with bonded reinforcement has been regulated in a separate guideline. This includes the dimensioning of the adhesively bonded strips made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), which, in addition to the complex iterative bending design, have a very complex bonding behavior. For this purpose, the German Committee for Structural Concrete developed a model for the verification based on experimental evaluations, in which the occurring tensile forces are partly transferred into the component via intermediate elements (partial distances between flexural cracks). Simultaneously, simplified but more inaccurate verification formats were made available to reduce the complexity of the verification. For an early assessment of the use of bonded CFRP strips, different tools have been developed in this paper for reinforced concrete components with a rectangular cross-section depending on the different verification formats. For this purpose, the design parameters were considered separately for pure bending strength and bonding behavior. For a simple calculation, tables for the design with dimensionless coefficients were obtained by analogy with the reinforced concrete construction, with which the required cross-section area for the CFRP strips can be determined by means of a limited stretching from the simplified verification of the flexural load bearing capacity. For a more economical solution, the more precise verification of the force transmission on the intermediate elements was configured in an Excel workbook, because this results in an extraordinary iterative calculation effort.".

When Ludwig Prandtl took up the Chair of Applied Mechanics at Göttingen University in 1904, the small university town became the cradle of modern fluid mechanics and aerodynamics. Not only did Prandtl found two research institutions of worldwide renown, the Aerodynamische Versuchsanstalt (AVA) and the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für Strömungsforschung, but with the so-called 'Göttingen School' he also established an exceptionally fertile line of scientific thinking, unique for its special balance of intuition for physics and mathematical precision. The scientific methods developed by Prandtl and his pupils are manifested in numerous dissertations, monographs and textbooks that now rate as classics and hence belong to the fundamental works on fluid mechanics. Yet many of these publications have long been out of print and inaccessible for study. The series Göttinger Klassiker der Strömungsmechanik is thus making available selected publications that emerged from Ludwig Prandtl's 'Göttingen School' or stand in a particular historical relationship to it. This highly personal biography of Ludwig Prandtl compiled by his daughter, Johanna Vogel-Prandtl, is complemented by numerous photographs depicting Prandtl's working and private life. It completes the picture of the founding father of modern fluid mechanics whose scientific importance continues to resonate to this day.

A history of Austria's Chambers of Engineers This book is the first history of Austria's Chambers of Chartered Engineering Consultants from the foundation of the institution of chartered engineering consultants in 1860 up to the Ziviltechnikergesetz of 1957. In addition to tracing the history of the organization, the book tackles head-on the controversial issue of collaboration with the Nazi regime and the fate of those chartered engineering consultants who were persecuted. Selected biographies reveal the extent of the chambers' autonomy and show how members' careers were made and broken during this period, as well as discriminatory measures. A special concern of this book is to keep alive the memory of those chartered engineering consultants who fell victim to the Nazi regime. À la fin du XIXe siècle au moment où la Révolution industrielle fait des États-Unis un pays tourné vers le progrès industriel et technique, un nouvel acteur s'impose sur la scène urbaine : l'ingénieur des travaux publics. Grâce aux équipements qu’il réalise, les métropoles se transforment radicalement. La modernisation des réseaux d’eau et des égouts fait reculer les épidémies, la création d'espaces verts améliore le cadre de vie, tandis que la construction d'ouvrages d'art, comme le pont de Brooklyn à New York, facilite la circulation. L'aptitude à l’innovation des ingénieurs municipaux américains est telle qu'ils deviennent des références en matière de travaux publics, en Amérique, mais aussi en Europe. S'intéresser à leur œuvre permet donc de mieux comprendre comment les États-Unis devienne à la fin du XIXe siècle une puissance technique de premier plan. L'influence de ces ingénieurs ne se limite pas cependant aux seules questions techniques. En effet, en recrutant ces hommes, les métropoles américaines posent les bases d'un gouvernement par l'expertise qui sera largement plébiscité au XXe siècle. On est loin de l'image corrompue qui est généralement associée aux villes à celle époque. En analysant le rôle des ingénieurs municipaux, c'est en fait les réalités urbaines de la fin du XIXe siècle que nous cernons mieux.

J.E. Moyal has been pronounced 'one of Australia's most remarkable thinkers'. Yet, he was, essentially, a scientific maverick. Educated in a modest high school in Tel Aviv, he took himself to France to train as an engineer, statistician and mathematician and escaped to England as France fell. It was from outside academia that he entered into communication with the 'high priest' of British theoretical physics, P.A.M. Dirac, challenging him with the idea of a statistical basis of quantum mechanics. Their correspondence forms the core of this book and opens up an important and hitherto unknown chapter for physicists, mathematicians and historians of science. Moyal's classic paper, 'A statistical basis for quantum mechanics', also reproduced here in full, has come to underlie an explosion of research and to underpin an array of major technological developments. Joe Moyal emerges in this small biography as a witty and intrepid character, a scuba diver and wine connoisseur, a generous teacher and researcher, and a man whose academic life-spanning France, Ireland, Britain, the USA and Australia-intersected with some of the leading scientists of the 20th century.
