Reeds van oudsher speelt de tandarts een belangrijke rol bij de preventie en de bestrijding van de negatieve gevolgen van chemische en bacteriologische bedreigingen van het kauwstelsel. De infecties en ontstekingen die hier het gevolg van kunnen zijn, tasten de gezondheid van de tanden en kiezen (cariës, endodontitis) en de omringende weefsels (parodontitis) aan. Echter, steeds duidelijker wordt dat ook mechanische bedreigingen de gezondheid van het kauwstelsel ernstig kunnen schaden. Verkeerde mondgewoonten zoals tandenknarsen en klemmen (bruxisme) kunnen een ongestoorde en pijnvrije functie van de kauwspieren en kaakgewrichten belemmeren (temporomandibulaire disfunctie en orofaciale pijn), aanleiding geven tot ernstig verlies van tandweefsel (gebitsattritie) en een bedreiging vormen voor tandheelkundige restauraties in de mond. Een verkeerde stand van de onderkaak en de tong tijdens de slaap kan aanleiding geven tot het obstructieve slaapapneusyndroom (OSAS). De orale kinesiologie is de tandheelkundige discipline die zich in het bijzonder bezighoudt met de preventie, diagnostiek en behandeling van bovengenoemde aandoeningen van het kauwstelsel. Dit boek is primair geschreven voor de tandarts-algemeen practicus en de student tandheelkunde of mondzorgkunde die zich de achtergronden en de klinische consequenties van stoornissen in de bewegingsfuncties van het kauwstelsel eigen willen maken om zo patiënten een optimale zorg te kunnen verlenen. Le docteur Toshikatsu Yamamoto, médecin japonais, découvrit dans les années 1970 une nouvelle somatotopie au niveau du crâne, jusque là inconnue. Il l'appela YNSA (Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture) afin qu'elle ne soit pas confondue avec la cranioacupuncture chinoise. Forme particulière de l'acupuncture, elle entre dans le cadre des « microsystèmes », qui ont tous en commun l'existence d'une somatotopie, représentation/projection du corps entier sur une zone très réduite de ce dernier, en l'occurrence, le cuir chevelu. Le domaine d'application thérapeutique est très large, incluant de nombreuses formes de douleurs aigues et chroniques, des pathologies neurologiques telles que les névralgies, les paralysies, les suites d'accidents vasculaires cérébraux... La cranioacupuncture de Yamamoto est relativement facile à apprendre, sa mise en œuvre est rapide, et elle donne des résultats souvent étonnants. Pour toutes ces raisons, l'auteur, élève direct du Dr Yamamoto, a pour but de présenter, de la manière la plus pratique possible et à travers une riche iconographie, cette technique acupuncturale.

Bettina Blessing's study follows the progress of homoeopathic therapies up to World War II. It focuses mainly on the development of double and complex remedies which were highly controversial even at the times of Hahnemann, who also experimented with double remedies. Various orientations of homoeopathy, spagyric, naturopathy and conventional medicine advocated homoeopathic remedies and supported medical concepts that were based on ˜holistic' views. One of the proponents of alternative healing methods was the renowned Berlin surgeon August Bier (1861-1949). For him, homoeopathy was one of several possible medical approaches and, in accordance with Heraclitus, he argued that a ˜harmonious view' of medicine was not possible as long as one of them was excluded.

Until recently in the field of vertebral surgery, many diseases were managed with surgery of instrumented vertebral stabilization and bone fusion (arthrodesis). Fusion always offered valid and safe results, although at the expense of the abolition of the motility of the spine section which was being operated upon For this reason, when treating degenerative diseases of the lumbosacral spine, the Orthopaedic Clinic of the S. Chiara Hospital in Pisa, introduced the Dynesys® lumbosacral spine dynamic neutralization system to treat patients and spinal diseases with selected indications. Dynesys is a non-fusion elastic system with transpedicular screws and a flexible connector for dynamic stabilization. This is a new method for treating the degenerative disease of the lumbosacral spine which preserves motility at the treated levels. While allowing for movement of the segment at all levels, the Dynesys provides stability to the functional unit, which attains a condition of physiological function compared with the rigid stabilization-arthrodesis. This publication, which describes the indications and the various phases of technical rehabilitation to be used after surgical treatment of lumbar degenerative spine, represents a work of fundamental importance that is clearly useful to those interested in this area of orthopaedics. The pathologies treated are: disc bulging and micro-instability with lumbar pain and irritating sciatica; herniated disc and microinstability of one level with irritating lumbar-sciatic pain; spondylosis with stenosis affecting at least two levels; degenerative spondylolisthesis of one level up to grade 2; repeated surgery on a herniated disc at one or two levels; rotational scoliosis of moderate grade in adults.

Cet ouvrage présente le résultat de recherches et de réflexions de plus de vingt années sur les liens qui existent entre le Yi Jing et l'acupuncture. Le Yi Jing, ouvrage majeur de la culture chinoise, décrit de façon symbolique toutes les situations possibles rencontrées dans la Réalité. L'acupuncture décrypte et soigne l'être humain dans toutes ses mutations. Le symbolisme du Yi Jing rejoint l'humanisme de cette Médecine traditionnelle pour une lecture dynamique des changements et transformations à l'œuvre dans l'être humain. La double réflexion engendre une vision globale de l'être humain et l'approche des patients en est changée. Après une approche de l'état d'esprit, rencontré dans ces deux domaines, l'auteur s'attache à retrouver les racines les plus anciennes des notions du Yin et du Yang. Cela lui permet de dégager les grandes lignes de force de la constitution d'un être humain et d'en approfondir la construction symbolique. Trois champs d'application de cette approche sont ensuite étudiés. Les Méridiens Extraordinaires sont envisagés sous un angle descriptif et comportemental, ce qui les rend extrêmement vivants et familiers. Les points Luo, points de relation de l'être humain avec la Réalité, sont aussi envisagés sur le plan pratique en utilisant une lecture symbolique des liens du Ciel, de la Terre et de l'Homme. De nombreux exemples viennent éclairer ces aspects. La dernière application est une présentation détaillée et complète des fonctions fondamentales et symboliques des douze méridiens principaux à travers les hexagrammes qui correspondent à leurs points Shu antiques. Cet ouvrage original est destiné à tout praticien de médecine traditionnelle chinoise curieux d'élargir son champ d'investigation. Le Docteur M.Vinogradoff exerce l'acupuncture depuis 25 ans. Il est membre de l'Association française d'acupuncture, du Collège français d'acupuncture et de l'Institut Ricci. Après avoir publié l'intégrale de la traduction du Yi Jing, il a publié en 2006 un roman, dont l'action se déroule en Chine Ancienne.
