Dieter Kienast (1945–1998) is a key Swiss figure in European landscape architecture. Amidst a striking change in societal understandings of nature, he sought a synthesis between design and ecology. He designed spaces to make the dissolving opposition between city and countryside legible and to enable aesthetic experience to help cope with increasingly complex everyday life. Kienast introduced new challenges into the discussion of those fields. Critique of urban planning, processes of participation and the significance of urban vegetation played just as much a role in these discussions as did art, literature, architecture, and the popularity of postmodernism.

‘The news industry faces profound financial instability and public distrust. Many believe the solution to these ongoing crises is for journalists to improve their relationship with their audiences. This raises important questions: How do journalists conceptualize their audiences in the first place? What is the connection between what journalists think about their audiences and what they do to reach them? Perhaps most important, how aligned are these ‘imagined’ audiences with the real ones? Imagined Audiences draws on ethnographic case studies of three news organizations to show how journalists' assumptions about their audiences shape their approaches to their audiences. In doing so, it examines the role that audiences traditionally have played in journalism, how that role has changed, and what those changes mean for both the profession and the public. It concludes by drawing on audience studies research to compare journalism's ‘imagined’ audiences with actual observations of news audience behavior. The result is a comprehensive study of both news production and reception at a time when the connection between the two has grown more important than ever’--

"The exhibition--based on Bernard Tschumi's work as an architect, educator, and writer--explores the making of architecture as a series of arguments, ideas, influences, and responses to the contemporary definition of architecture today. Tschumi's major architectural projects are organized around two primary ideas and five themes. These primary ideas are concept and notation: there is no architecture without an idea or concept, just as there is no architecture without a method of notation to express its content. Architecture is not a study of form, but rather a form of knowledge. The five thematic zones in the exhibition each propose a fundamental area in the definition of architecture. The themes are: Space and Event; Program and Superposition; Vectors and Envelopes; Context and Content; and Concept-Form. Tschumi illustrates these themes through a series of well-known and lesser-known projects, from the historic Parc de Ia Villette in Paris to later projects such as the Acropolis Museum in Athens, as well as the new architecture for the redesign for the Paris Zoological Park. Alongside the projects are a series of tables that extend and amplify the main narrative of the exhibition through topics related to architectural thought and production"

Le Corbusier’s Unité d’habitation “Typ Berlin”—built 1957–58—is an exceptional testimony to Berlin’s post-war architecture. Although it follows the basic concept of a “vertical village” as envisioned by the architect, the gigantic block, containing 530 apartments, clearly differs from the Marseille original. However, as a result of modifications required by the client, the construction occupies the position of an outsider in Le Corbusier’s oeuvre. Authors from the fields of architecture, urbanism, art history, and cultural studies precisely set out the genesis of the listed building for the first time. In addition, they investigate the development of the “Unité d’habitation” model, the Berlin variant’s unique color concept, and carry out a comparison with the four typologically related buildings in France. In looking at the significance, ingenuity, and creative impact of Le Corbusier’s unique creation in Berlin, the so-called “Corbusierhaus,” the publication fills a gap in the literature on post-war modernism and the architect’s body of work.
