Abstract

The Algorithms such as SVD, Eigen decomposition, Gaussian Mixture Model, HMM etc. are scattered in different fields. There is the need to collect all such algorithms for quick reference. Also there is the need to view such algorithms in application point of view. Algorithm Collections for Digital Signal Processing Applications using MATLAB attempts to satisfy the above requirement. Also the algorithms are made clear using MATLAB programs.

Abstract

This state-of-the-art resource brings together the latest findings from the cross-fertilization of signal processing, machine learning and computer science. The emphasis is on demonstrating synergy of different signal processing methods with knowledge extraction and heterogeneous information fusion. Issues related to the processing of signals with low signal-to-noise ratio, solving real-world multi-channel problems, and using adaptive techniques where nonstationarity, uncertainty and complexity play major roles are addressed. Particular methods include Independent Component Analysis, Support Vector Machines, Distributed and Collaborative Adaptive Filtering, Empirical Mode Decomposition, Self Organizing Maps, Fuzzy Logic, Evolutionary Algorithms and several others used frequently in these fields. Also included are both important and novel applications from telecommunications, renewable energy and biomedical engineering. Signal Processing Techniques for Knowledge Extraction and Information Fusion which proposes new techniques for extracting knowledge based on combining heterogeneous information sources is an excellent reference for professionals in signal and image processing, machine learning, data and sensor fusion, computational intelligence, knowledge discovery, pattern recognition, and environmental science and engineering.

Abstract

Fractional processes are widely found in science, technology and engineering systems. In Fractional Processes and Fractional-order Signal Processing, some complex random signals, characterized by the presence of a heavy-tailed distribution or non-negligible dependence between distant observations (local and long memory), are introduced and examined from the ˜fractional' perspective using simulation, fractional-order modeling and filtering and realization of fractional-order systems. These fractional-order signal processing (FOSP) techniques are based on fractional calculus, the fractional Fourier transform and fractional lower-order moments. Fractional Processes and Fractional-order Signal Processing: ¢ presents fractional processes of fixed, variable and distributed order studied as the output of fractional-order differential systems; ¢ introduces FOSP techniques and the fractional signals and fractional systems point of view; ¢ details real-world-application examples of FOSP techniques to demonstrate their utility; and ¢ provides important background material on Mittag-Leffler functions, the use of numerical inverse Laplace transform algorithms and supporting MATLAB® codes together with a helpful survey of relevant webpages. Readers will be able to use the techniques presented to re-examine their signals and signal-processing methods. This text offers an extended toolbox for complex signals from diverse fields in science and engineering. It will give academic researchers and practitioners a novel insight into the complex random signals characterized by fractional properties, and some powerful tools to analyze those signals.

Abstract

Over the last 50 years there have been an increasing number of applications of algebraic tools to solve problems in communications, in particular in the fields of error-control codes and cryptography. More recently, broader applications have emerged, requiring quite sophisticated algebra - for example, the Alamouti scheme in MIMO communications is just Hamilton's quaternions in disguise and has spawned the use of PhD-level algebra to produce generalizations. Likewise, in the absence of credible alternatives, the industry has in many cases been forced to adopt elliptic curve cryptography. In addition, algebra has been successfully applied to problems in signal processing such as face recognition, biometrics, control design, and signal design for radar. This book introduces the reader to the algebra they need to appreciate these developments and to various problems solved by these techniques.

Abstract

"Blind Signal Processing: Theory and Practice" not only introduces related fundamental mathematics, but also reflects the numerous advances in the field, such as probability density estimation-based processing algorithms, underdetermined models, complex value methods, uncertainty of order in the separation of convolutive mixtures in frequency domains, and feature extraction using Independent Component Analysis (ICA). At the end of the book, results from a study conducted at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in the areas of speech signal processing, underwater signals, image feature extraction, data compression, and the like are discussed. This book will be of particular interest to advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, university instructors and research scientists in related disciplines. Xizhi Shi is a Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
