Data on the synthesis and physicochemical studies of salts of mono- or dibasic unsaturated carboxylic acids and macromolecular metal carboxylates are generalised and described systematically. The structures and properties of the COO group in various compounds and characteristic features of the structures of carboxylate are analysed. The main routes and kinetics of polymerisation transformations of unsaturated metal carboxylates are considered. The attention is focused on the effect of the metal ion on the monomer reactivity and the polymer morphology and structure. The possibility of stereochemical control of radical polymerisation of unsaturated metal carboxylates is demonstrated. The electronic, magnetic, optical, absorption and thermal properties of metal (co)polymers and nanocomposites and their main applications are considered.

This survey presents the theoretical methods of chemical engineering for modeling and simulation of industrial processes. On this base it is possible to formulate correct experimental conditions and to understand rightly the experimental results. The book uses the mechanics of continuous media approach for modeling of the simple processes as hydrodynamic processes, mass and heat transfer processes. The theory of the scalar, vector and tensor fields permit to create the basic equations and boundary conditions. The problems of rheology, turbulence, turbulent diffusion and turbulent mass transfer are examined too. The book incorporates a lot of fundamental knowledge, but it is assumed that the readers are familiar with the mathematics at engineering level and that they thought some special topics in usual university courses. It includes examples at the end of all chapters using the author’s investigations. Therefore, it is highly valuable for scientists as well as graduate and PhD students.

The TPSM in macro, quantum wire and quantum dot superlattices of optoelectronic materials in the presence of external photo-excitation have also been studied on the basis of newly formulated electron dispersion laws. This monograph contains 150 open research problems which form the very core and are useful for Ph. D students and researchers in the fields of materials science, solid state sciences, computational and theoretical nanoscience and technology, nanostructured thermodynamics and condensed matter physics in general in addition to the graduate courses on modern thermoelectric materials in various academic departments of many institutes and Universities. The book is written for researchers and engineers, post graduate students, professionals in the fields of materials science, nanoscience and technology, solid state sciences, nanostructured thermodynamics and condensed matter physics.

This book describes the synthesis, characterization and applications of inorganic and metallic nanotubular materials. It cover a wide variety of nanotubular materials excluding carbon nanotubes, ranging from metal oxides, sulfides and nitrides such as titanium oxide, tungsten sulfide, and boron nitride, as well as platinum and other noble-metals to unique nanotubes consisting of water, graphene or fullerene. Based on their structural and compositional characteristics, these nanotubular materials are of importance for their potential applications in electronic devices, photocatalysts, dye-sensitized solar cells, nanothermometers, electrodes for fuel cells and batteries, sensors, and reinforcing fillers for plastics, among others. Such materials are also having a great impact on future developments, including renewable-energy sources as well as highly efficient energy-conversion and energy-saving technologies. This book will be of particular interest to experts in the fields of nanotechnology, material science and inorganic and solid-state chemistry, as well as graduate students in chemistry and physics.

Modern mineral processing plants are required to be safe and profitable and to minimize their environmental impact. The consequent quest for higher operational standards at reduced cost is leading the industry towards automation technologies as capital-effective means of attaining these objectives. Advanced Control and Supervision of Mineral Processing Plants describes the use of dynamic models of major items of mineral processing equipment in the design of control, data reconciliation and soft-sensing schemes; through examples, it illustrates tools integrating simulation and control system design for comminuting circuits and flotation columns. Full coverage is given to the design of soft sensors based on either single-point measurements or more complex measurements like images. The chief issues concerning steady-state and dynamic data reconciliation and their employment in the creation of instrument architecture and fault diagnosis are surveyed. In consideration of the widespread use of distributed control and information management systems in mineral processing, the book describes the current platforms and toolkits available for implementing such advanced systems. Applications of the techniques described in real mineral processing plants are used to highlight their benefits; information for all of the examples, together with supporting MATLAB® code can be found at www.springer.com/978-1-84996-105-9. The provision of valuable tools and information on the use of modern software platforms and methods will benefit engineers working in the mineral processing industries, and control engineers and academics interested in the real industrial practicalities of new control ideas. The book will also be of interest to graduate students in chemical, metallurgical and electronic engineering looking for applications of control technology in the treatment of raw materials.

This volume reviews on selected aspects related to surface magnetism, a field of extraordinary interest during the last decade. The special emphasis is set to the correlation of structural, electronic and magnetic properties in rare earth metal systems and ferromagnetic transition metals. This is made possible by the combination of electron emission techniques (spin polarized photoelectron spectroscopy, magnetic dichroism in photoemission and spin polarized metastable deexcitation spectroscopy) and local probes with high lateral resolution down to the atomic scale (spin polarized scanning tunneling microscopy / spectroscopy).
