The Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, born in 1907, counts as one of the great architects of the 20th century. he became well-known for his buildings in Brasilia, which combined a respect for the immediate surroundings with unmistakable, almost baroque designs. In this publication, noted authors analyse important and topical aspects of Niemeyer’s works and the text "My Architecture" by Niemeyer himself is featured. His work is set in the context of Brazil’s modern architectural history, and his contribution to urban planning is reviewed. The role of the landscape in his oeuvre, and his influence on recent German architecture is examined . Striking duotone photographs from the Niemeyer archives, spread over 48 pages illustrate the highlights of his architecture. This book has been published to accompany the exhibition "Oscar Niemeyer" which will start in February 2003 at the German Museum for Architecture (DAM) in Frankfurt.

Bousculés par la crise environnementale et préoccupés par leur alimentation et leur santé, les habitants de la métropole considèrent à nouveau l'agriculture. Mais la vision idéale qu'ils en ont gardée est difficile à projeter face à l'organisation et les pratiques de la ville contemporaine. L'ouvrage "Capital agricole - Chantiers pour une ville cultivée" déterre les liens qualitatifs entre production agricole et production urbaine, entre le cultivé et l'habité. Architectes, urbanistes, agriculteurs, écologues, ingénieurs, entrepreneurs, historiens, géographes, sociologues..., réunis autour de l'agence d'architecture SOA, reviennent sur l'exceptionnel patrimoine agricole disparu au cours du XXe siècle, ainsi que sur les mutations sociales, économiques et territoriales qui ont profondément modifié l'organisation des rapports ville-nature-agriculture. A partir des formes ordinaires de l'agglomération parisienne - grands ensembles, lotissements, zones d'activités- cette étude invite à une revalorisation des sols par les activités agricoles des fermes existantes ou à créer, et à structurer un réseau de nouvelles centralités civiques à l'échelle métropolitaine.
