Abstract

For 20 years, the IFIP WG 11. 3 Working Conference on Data and Appli- tions Security (DBSEC) has been a major forum for presenting originalresearch results, practical experiences, and innovative ideas in data and applications - curity. Looking back, it is di?cult not to appreciatethe full extent of the change that has occurred in our ?eld. Once considered afterthoughts in systems and application design, data protection, privacy and trust have become the key problems of our day. This central role of security in the information society has however brought increased responsibilities to the research community. - day practitioners and researchers alike need to ?nd new ways to cope with the increasing scale and complexity of the security problems that must be solved on the global information infrastructure. Like the previous conference, the 20th DBSEC has proved to be up to this challenge. DBSEC 2006 received 56 submissions, out of which the program committee selected22 high-qualitypaperscoveringanumber of diverseresearchtopicssuch as access control, privacy, and identity management. We are glad to see that the ?nal program contains a well-balanced mix of theoretical results and practical prototype systems, many of them converging and building o? each other. Also, the DBSEC program includes a number of papers on new, emerging aspects of security research. Putting together a top-level conference like DBSEC is always a team e?ort.

Abstract

Ambient Intelligence is a vision of the future where the world will be surrounded by electronic environments sensitive and responsive to people, wherein devices work in concert to support people in carrying out their everyday life activities, in an easy and natural way. This edited volume is based on the workshop Multimedia Techniques for Ambient Intelligence (MTDAI08), held in Mogliano Veneto, Italy in March 2008. Contributed by world renowned leaders in the field from academia and industry, this volume is dedicated to research on technologies used to improve the intelligence capability of multimedia devices for imaging, image processing and computer vision. Focuses on recent developments in digital signal processing, including evolutions in audiovisual signal processing, analysis, coding and authentication, and retrieval techniques. Designed for researchers and professionals, this book is also suitable for advanced-level students in computer science and electrical engineering.

Abstract

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the First International Symposium on Data-Driven Process Discovery and Analysis held in Campione d'Italia, Italy, in June/July 2011.The 11 revised full papers were carefully selected from 31 submissions. In addition to the thorough review process, the lively discussions at the event itself also helped the authors to improve their papers and to foster interesting extensions. The selected papers cover a wide range of topics spanning theoretical issues related to process representation to practical experience in process discovery and analysis.

Abstract

Traditionally, signal processing techniques lay at the foundation of multimedia data processing and analysis. In the past few years, a new wave of advanced signal-processing techniques has delivered exciting results, increasing system's capabilities of efficiently exchanging image data and extracting useful knowledge. Signal Processing for Image Enhancement and Multimedia Processing is written by global experts who have extended the best papers presented at the SITIS 2006 International Conference to chapter versions. This edited book presents research results on the application of advanced signal processing techniques for improving the value of image and video data. In addition, this volume includes discussions on feature-based techniques for deep, feature-oriented analysis of images, plus new results on video coding on the time-honored topic of securing image information. Signal Processing for Image Enhancement and Multimedia Processing is designed for a professional audience of practitioners and researchers in industry. It is also suitable as a reference or secondary text for advanced-level students in computer science and engineering.

Abstract

The next generation of Business Process Management (BPM) methods and tools will support the development of a new generation of service-enabled applications that change and evolve over time. The trend is moving from relatively stable, organization-specific applications to dynamic ones supporting business processes. This book is an outcome of the International Workshop on Business System Management and Engineering (BSME 2010), held in Malaga, Spain, in June/July 2010, in conjunction with the TOOLS 2010 federated conferences and under the aegis of the EU Network of Excellence on Service Software and Systems (S-Cube). The goal of the workshop was to bring together experts in the fields of business process management, service-oriented architectures, and service security to discuss the current state of research and identify new issues, challenges, and research directions. The results of these discussions are reflected in this book.

The conference is also meant to provide infor- tion and education to practitioners, to identify directions for further research, and to be an ongoing platform for technology transfer. Thiswasthe goalofthe 1stXP 2000Conference.TheOrganizingCommittee expected around 60 people to attend, and they got 160. The subsequent c- ferences were held again in Sardinia and then all over Europe, maintaining the position of a leading world event on the topics of agility in software and system development. Now the International Conference on Agile Processes in Software Engineering and eXtreme Programming, XP 2007, is in its eighth edition. During these years, the agile approach has become mainstream in the so- ware industry. It is able to produce business value early in the project lifetime and to successfully deal with changing requirements. It focuses on the delivery of running, tested versions of the system at a constant pace, featuring a c- tinuous interaction with customers, and paying extreme attention to the human component of software development. The rapidly growing scienti?c and prac- cal evidence shows many quality gains, including increased productivity, fewer defects, and increased customer satisfaction. The conference brings together both industrial practitioners and researchers. It is based not only on paper presentation, but also on workshops, tutorials, satellite symposia, such as the PhD Symposium, and activity sessions. These dynamicandinteractiveactivitiesarethe peculiarityofthe ConferencesonAgile Processes in Software Engineering and eXtreme Programming.
