Aujourd'hui, la formation est sans conteste la pierre angulaire des « sociétés du savoir » et elle le sera plus encore demain. De même, le rôle de l'école est, de l'avis de tous, décisif : celle-ci inculque à chacun les savoirs fondamentaux qui lui permettront de continuer à apprendre tout au long de sa vie. Mais avec quel succès les objectifs visés sont-ils atteints ? Dans quelle mesure les établissements scolaires font-ils preuve d'innovation ? Et quels sont, au sein de l'OCDE, les exemples riches de promesses et d'enseignements ?C'est autour de ces questions que s'articule cet ouvrage. Il s'appuie sur les vues échangées lors d'une grande conférence organisée conjointement par l'OCDE et le Japon, à Hiroshima, en présence d'experts de 24 pays, ainsi que sur la conférence « virtuelle » conduite en parallèle. Il présente les grandes tendances et les enjeux de l'école d'aujourd'hui et de demain, embrassant dans son analyse les traditions européennes et les différentes perspectives propres à la région Asie-Pacifique, une place particulière étant faite au Japon. Les chapitres rédigés par des experts sont suivis d'une synthèse regroupant des exemples d'écoles innovantes, empruntés à nombre des pays ayant participé à la conférence d'Hiroshima. Cet ouvrage traite des programmes d'enseignement, des innovations et de l'apprentissage tout au long de la vie dans l'école de demain.
