Geen gebied in Europa heeft de afgelopen jaren zulke veranderingen meegemaakt als het midden en oosten van ons continent. Tot 1989 lag het gebied achter het IJzeren Gordijn, waar de Sovjet-Unie de lakens uitdeelde. Daarna werden Midden- en Oost-Europa deel van de vrije wereld.
