Dit boek gaat terug op een tentoonstelling in het Gentse Museum Dr. Guislain over het geheugen, dat zowel wordt bekeken vanuit een wetenschappelijke als een historische en artistieke invalshoek. Na een algemene inleiding gaan verschillende auteurs in op de centrale thema's van de tentoonstelling. In dit deel vind je essays over de middeleeuwse geheugenkunst, de werkwijze van het geheugen (vanuit Marcel Prousts 'A la recherche du temps perdu'), de ziekte van Alzheimer, de zogenoemde 'Poetica Memoriae' (de manier waarop kunstenaars omgaan met het geheugen) en het coderen en opslaan van objecten of informatie (in Kunst- und Wunderkammern, encyclopedieën, Wikipedia etc.). Na dat alles volgen korte bijdragen over specifieke thema's, werken of kunstenaars uit de tentoonstelling. Achteraan vind je Franse en Engelse vertalingen, personalia en een lijst van de bruikleengevers.
