Abstract

This book provides information on how to extract the most from mobile applications and easily adapt and integrate them into daily practice. Today mobile applications that can optimize patient flow, help in examinations, perform anterior/posterior segment imaging, offer differential diagnosis and therapeutic options and even serve as patient drug reminders and councilors are easily available. Most of them have been developed by individuals and as a result lack marketing, even though they are free to download and use. Ophthalmology has always been at the forefront of medicine when it comes to adopting the latest developments — be they lasers, off-label anti-VEGF drugs or biocompatible implants. Mobile phones and tablets have infiltrated our private and professional lives and they are here to stay. As such, this book explores the endless possibilities that mobile computing offers, and introduces the vista of opportunities for providing better care, one download at a time. As part of the series “Current Practices in Ophthalmology” this volume is intended for residents and fellows in-training, as well as general and specialist ophthalmologists.

Abstract

This book focuses on the experiences of temporary movements between Asia and Europe from the perspective of migrants and mobile people. It raises important questions such as: Why do people migrate on a temporary basis and what does this actually mean? How are these trajectories shaped? What are the implications of temporary moves for migrants and non-migrants? And how are transnational ties and practices characterized in the context of temporary migration? By shedding light on the practices and experiences of individual migrants, the book provides useful insights into understanding the challenges arising in an increasingly interconnected and mobile world. The chapters indicate that temporary migratory movements are on the rise: on the one hand on a voluntary basis such as reflected in labour migration, lifestyle migration and international student mobility, and on the other hand in an involuntary way as expressed in different forms of forced migration. Either way, temporary migration has diverse political. legal, economic, social and cultural implications, including the emergence of novel transnational networks and practices. The book is based on the findings of the international research project Transnational Migration in Transition: Transformative Characteristics of Temporary Mobility of People (EURA-NET), funded by the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme for period 2014-2017. .

Abstract

This Palgrave Pivot explores how communication technology such as the Internet has changed the nature of trade, focusing especially on economy-wide reductions in company size (granularity) and the role of retailers (disintermediation). By increasing access to comparative data, influencing conceptions of time, and reducing the number of intermediaries between creator and consumer, technological connectivity is changing the very definition of competition. In the new network economy, disintermediation and granularity are turning cooperative information gathering and sharing into a vital market institution. To exemplify the effects of communication technology, Bhatt focuses on two markets with particularly powerful effects on the economy: labor and education, and CIME (communication, information services, media, and entertainment). Mobile connectivity is radically changing the extent, capabilities, and operations of these markets, both in terms of the services they provide and how they interact with consumers. Bhatt also explores how these benefits intersect with new concerns about privacy and security when the line between public and private information is becoming ever more fluid.

Abstract

This proceedings volume covers a range of research topics in algebra from the Southern Regional Algebra Conference (SRAC) that took place in March 2017. Presenting theory as well as computational methods, featured survey articles and research papers focus on ongoing research in algebraic geometry, ring theory, group theory, and associative algebras. Topics include algebraic groups, combinatorial commutative algebra, computational methods for representations of groups and algebras, group theory, Hopf-Galois theory, hypergroups, Lie superalgebras, matrix analysis, spherical and algebraic spaces, and tropical algebraic geometry. Since 1988, SRAC has been an important event for the algebra research community in the Gulf Coast Region and surrounding states, building a strong network of algebraists that fosters collaboration in research and education. This volume is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in recent findings in computational and theoretical methods in algebra and representation theory.
