Abstract

New materials and manufacturing techniques are evolving with the potential to address the challenges associated with the manufacture of medicinal products that will teach new tricks to old drugs. Nano- and microfabrication techniques include manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing, lithography, micro-moulding, spray drying, and supercritical fluids among many others. The increasing resolution of new techniques allow researchers to produce objects with micrometric resolutions. This book follows a consecutive order, beginning with a background in the current field and limitations in the manufacturing of different pharmaceutical products, moving on the classification of each method by providing recent examples, and future prospective on a variety of traditional and new Nano and microfabrication techniques. A focus on the materials used to prepare these systems and their biocompatibility, including applied topics such as clinical applications and regulatory aspects also covered, offering the reader a holistic view of this rapidly growing field.

Abstract

There is a distinct lack of theoretical innovation in the cybersecurity industry. This is not to say that innovation is lacking, as new technologies, services, and solutions (as well as buzzwords) are emerging every day. This book will be the first cybersecurity text aimed at encouraging abstract and intellectual exploration of cybersecurity from the philosophical and speculative perspective. Technological innovation is certainly necessary, as it furthers the purveying of goods and services for cybersecurity producers in addition to securing the attack surface of cybersecurity consumers where able. The issue is that the industry, sector, and even academia are largely technologically focused. There is not enough work done to further the trade--the craft of cybersecurity. This book frames the cause of this and other issues, and what can be done about them. Potential methods and directions are outlined regarding how the industry can evolve to embrace theoretical cybersecurity innovation as it pertains to the art, as much as to the science. To do this, a taxonomy of the cybersecurity body of work is laid out to identify how the influences of the industry's past and present constrain future innovation. Then, cost-benefit analysis and right-sizing of cybersecurity roles and responsibilities--as well as defensible experimentation concepts--are presented as the foundation for moving beyond some of those constraining factors that limit theoretical cybersecurity innovation. Lastly, examples and case studies demonstrate future-oriented topics for cybersecurity theorization such as game theory, infinite-minded methodologies, and strategic cybersecurity implementations. What you'll learn The current state of the cybersecurity sector and how it constrains theoretical innovation How to understand attacker and defender cost benefit The detect, prevent, and accept paradigm How to build your own cybersecurity box Supporting cybersecurity innovation through defensible experimentation How to implement strategic cybersecurity Infinite vs finite game play in cybersecurity Who This Book Is For This book is for both practitioners of cybersecurity and those who are required to, or choose to, employ such services, technology, or capabilities.

Abstract

Enterprise management theories about the so-called bionic organization currently face a significant funding gap. Bionic theories have been mainly applied to enterprise lifecycle because of the presence of similarities between economic organizations and organisms. The digital transformation has offered advancements in the bionics research field which enable us to discuss bionic organizations for the first time as business realities in which humans and machines, especially robotic process automation systems and artificial intelligence tools, cooperate in executing operations. This book determines how a bionic organization can be defined and what are its fundamental elements in the case of banking. Specifically, it investigates the two pillars of bionic enterprise which are technology and humans, as well as the core objectives and outcomes. In order to provide an exhaustive overview, the book proposes a new conceptualization of the business model of a bionic organization on the basis of the Business Model Canvas framework. Ultimately, the study of bionic organizations is aimed to discover also how they evolved in the post pandemic phase as a result of the disruptive events generated by the spread of the pandemic. The research on the book has been conducted through a qualitative and descriptive methodology with the intent to build further knowledge about the topic starting from the information available in literature. To provide actual evidence of the reality of bionic financial services, the book includes case studies. The organizations observed in the study have been selected since they present some of the key traits identified by the bionic enterprise theory. The book demonstrates that bionic enterprise theory can be further enriched with the conceptualization of a bionic business model in which the paradigm of collaboration between humans and machines is a recurring element.

Abstract

This book examines how technologies are changing, will change, or could change the relationship between audiences and news media. It highlights how novel technologies could have fundamental implications for the way that news media interact with wider society. The book comprises of four thematic parts. Firstly, it focuses on the impact of technological development on the news media business, exploring how news media uses new technologies to improve their sustainability. Secondly, it considers the ethical dilemmas that arise when audience-news media relationships are transformed by technological development. The third part of the book approaches the effects of novel technologies from the journalists' viewpoint: how do new technologies intervene in the audience-news media relationship through journalistic work? Finally, the fourth part dissects the ways new technologies can impact audience-news media relationships through transforming audience agency, audience preferences and news media's understanding of them. Ville J. E. Manninen is a Researcher at the University of Vaasa's InnoLab research platform in Finland. He has worked as a researcher and a lecturer at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, focusing on journalistic work practices and media plurality. Ville is a journalism studies graduate and has worked in several newspapers. Mari K. Niemi is the Research Director of E2 Research, an independent research institute based in Helsinki, Finland. She served as the founding Director of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship InnoLab, a research platform at the University of Vaasa. Abstract

"In Experimentation Matters, Stefan Thomke argues that companies must not only understand the power of experimentation and new technologies, but also change their processes, organization, and management of innovation. He explains why experimentation is so critical to innovation, underscores the impact of new technologies, and outlines what managers must do to integrate them successfully." "Probing and thoughtful, Experimentation Matters will influence how both executives and academics think about experimentation in general and innovation processes in particular. Experimentation has always been the engine of innovation, and Thomke reveals how it works today."--Jacket.
