"This book brings together a comprehensive and diverse range of perspectives and experiences of strategies and approaches that will be of value to anyone who works in delivery, leadership or support of diversity and inclusion in higher education. Its authentic voice, combined with a rich range of methodologies and personal insights helps the authors to bring complex concepts to life in a manner which is honest, thoughtful and challenging." -Professor Sarah Sharples, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, University of Nottingham, UK "Crimmins' excellent collection is a treasure trove of irrefutable statistical facts and figures that blows away the myth that diversity and inclusion policies have closed the equalities gap in higher education. Powerful fuel for policy makers and social justice educators passionate about creating a truly global academy where all can flourish regardless of race, gender, class, sexuality, and (dis)ability." -Professor Heidi Safia Mirza, Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK This book explores tried and tested strategies that support student and faculty engagement and inclusion in the academy. These strategies are anchored by a brief exploration of the history and effect/s of exclusion and deprivilege in higher education. However, while many publications exploring academic inequality focus on the causes and impacts of structural, psychological and cultural exclusion based on racism, sexism, classism and ableism, they rarely engage in interventions to expose and combat such de/privilege. Capturing examples of inclusive practices that are as diverse as student and faculty populations, these strategies can be easily translated and employed by organisations, collectives and individuals to recognise and combat social and academic exclusion within higher education environments. Gail Crimmins is Senior Lecturer at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia. Her research interests include gender inequity and the student experience in the academy and uses of feminist approaches to research. .

This edited book explores the problems and challenges of negotiating the representation of ethnic minorities within history education. It investigates how states balance the (non-)acknowledgement of the reality of cultural or religious diversity, and the promotion of a point of convergence in history education to foster national identity. Shifting our attention away from the intractable challenges posed by post-conflict countries for reconciliation, the contributors draw attention to the need to explore ways to prevent or pre-empt conflicts and exclusion through history education, which could contribute to developing a more sustainable culture of peace. Drawing on a wide range of contexts and sources, this book asks how history education could contribute to forming critical, historically informed, and committed young citizens. The book will be of interest to students and academics working on themes such as nationalism, citizenship, ethnicity, history education, multicultural education, peace studies and area studies, as well as practitioners in the fields of history, social studies, civic or citizenship. Helen Ting Mu Hung is Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies, National University of Malaysia (UKM). Besides history education, her other research interests include national integration, multiculturalism, nationalism, gender and politics, identity and agency, and the politics of national identity. Luigi Cajani is a retired Professor of Early Modern History at the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. He was formerly president (2012–2018) of the International Research Association for History and Social Sciences Education and is currently an associated scholar at the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research, Germany.

Actes de la recherche en sciences sociales is a quarterly journal published in French. Created in 1975 by Pierre Bourdieu and his fellow scholars, it proved to be a landmark in French-language social science publications as it strived to reconcile expectations that had previously been considered exclusive: to appeal to scholars and students in the social sciences while aiming for a wider audience interested in social issues. The journal meets high scientific standards, yet aspires as ardently to confront problems related to current events. Although sociology has a central place, the journal holds a unified conception of the social sciences, which quite regularly leads to articles published by historians, political scientists, economists, and other scholars. The journal’s form also breaks with academic routine. The articles published consist of research at various stages of progress (from a note in the design phase to the “finished product”) and are all based on a single issue that is developed theoretically and tested in different original empirical fields. Hence, with a few exceptions, each issue forms a whole in which the articles respond to and complement one another. Since its beginnings, the journal has also exhibited innovative design in its intensive use of documents (photographs, archives, investigative materials, press clippings, etc.) which, at times, are just as illustrative as the text. Over time, Actes de la recherche en sciences sociales has acquired a strong international dimension. It has contributed to introducing the French-speaking public to important research conducted abroad, and the issues often combine analyses dedicated to different national interests. Journal recognized by the CNRS, and published with the support of the Centre de sociologie européenne, of the Collège de France, of the Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme, of the l’Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales, of the Centre national de la recherche scientifique and of the Centre national du livre.
