Qu'est-ce que la recherche pour un artiste aujourd'hui ? Qu'est-ce qui singularise la « recherche en art(s) » ? En quoi n'est-elle ni simplement recherche sur l'art, ni recherche de l'art, participant pourtant de l'une et de l'autre ? En quoi cette recherche croise-t-elle d'autres communautés de chercheurs, en particulier les scientifiques ? Ce livre se propose de montrer comment ces questions, qui s'inscrivent dans le cadre des réformes en cours de l'enseignement supérieur relevant du ministère de la culture, ont une pertinence plus large : non seulement elles opèrent au sein des différents champs de la création (musique, danse, théâtre, architecture, arts plastiques, design), nourrissant des expériences multiples, mais elles renouvellent aussi la représentation que l'on se fait des partages entre pensée théorique (en esthétique, en science...) et activité artistique.
