Onderzoek met SPSS en Excel richt zich op het verwerken van onderzoeksgegevens. Daarbij ligt de nadruk op het gebruik van SPSS. Aan de hand van praktijkcases neemt het boek de student stap voor stap mee door de verschillende mogelijkheden van dit programma. Hierdoor leert de student de onderzoeksvragen zelfstandig op te lossen. 
Het boek bespreekt tevens de theorie voor steekproefonderzoek. Deze wordt, waar dit eenvoudiger en praktischer is dan in SPSS, uitgewerkt in Excel.

De SPSS-delen van het boek zijn geschreven in een practicumvorm zodat de student zich dit pakket zelfstandig eigen kan maken. De databestanden die de student nodig heeft bij het maken van de opdrachten kan hij terugvinden op de website die bij het boek hoort. 
Onderzoek met SPSS en Excel is geschreven voor studenten in het hoger onderwijs die in hun opleiding te maken krijgen met uitvoeren en onderzoek.
