Abstract

This master thesis proposes a theoretical and conceptual approach in Business Ethics via a literature review and crossing the findings with the analysis of the economy of a less developed country in order to propose a method to improve their initiative.
The study contributes to the research of positive effects in business to use universal moral standards to build trust and obtain better results within the negotiation process, as well as how to implement such a framework in the case of a less developed country, by the example of the DRC, with a high rate of corruption. It confirms that the Democratic Republic of Congo’s’ economy would benefit of applying universal moral standards in the business negotiation processes in order to realize a sustainable growth.
This study demonstrates that:
- Universal moral standards cross cultures, any time and any place do exist and are relevant in the case of the Democratic Republic of Congo;
- Universal moral standards are trust builders in a negotiation process, may foster a more profitable agreement for the Congolese companies with their main existing business partner and open ways to reach new markets;
- The Business Code of Conduct initiative of the Congolese Corporate Federation is compliant with the universal moral standards internationally recognized and is the first step of implementing universal moral standards;
- A conceptual framework has to be tested to complete the Corporate Federation of Congo’s CDCA initiative and make it efficient.
