Abstract

Het internet is vandaag de dag alomtegenwoordig in onze samenleving waardoor communicatie vaker op grotere afstand gebeurt. De hedendaagse industrie bezit complexe geautomatiseerde systemen bestaande uit verschillende componenten die de netwerkverbindingen mogelijk maken. De systemen vergemakkelijken de foutdiagnoses van op afstand, verbeteren de gebruiksvriendelijkheid en verscherpen de veiligheid. In deze masterproef gaat het in het eerste deel over de realisatie van de internetcommunicatie van een fysische lift. De testopstelling bestaat uit een PLC van Siemens en Beckhoff die elektrisch verbonden zijn met de lift. Het sturen van de lift via internet gebeurt door een VPN-verbinding. De Siemens PLC is voorzien van een HTML pagina die de mogelijkheid geeft om de liftdeuren te openen of te sluiten. Het bedieningspaneel van de Beckhoff PLC is geprogrammeerd in TwinCAT. Met het bedieningspaneel kan je de lift naar een bepaalde verdieping sturen en nagaan of de lift in express of brandweer mode staat. In de praktijk is dit zeer handig bij een brand bijvoorbeeld. De brandweercentrale kan onmiddellijk gecontacteerd worden en van op afstand de lift in brandweersturing plaatsen. De lift komt dan naar het gelijkvloers en opent de deuren. Deze twee PLC's kunnen ook thuis geïnstalleerd worden als domotica installatie met behulp van een publieke DNS-naam die verbonden zijn aan een statisch IP-adres. In het tweede deel gaat het over de integratie van het liftprogramma in de S300 naar S1200. Waarbij een nieuw touchscreen geprogrammeerd is in Siemens TIA waarmee je de lift kan bedienen. The internet is nowadays used to communicate over a greater distance. Today's industry possesses complex automated systems consisting of different components that allows a network connection. The internet makes it easier to establish a fault diagnoses remotely, enhance usability and tighten security. In the first part of this thesis the PLC's realize the communication over internet of a physical elevator. The test rig consists of a Siemens PLC and Beckhoff which are electrically connected to the elevator. Navigation of the lift is controlled over the internet through a VPN connection. The Siemens PLC is provided with an HTML page which provides the ability to open or close the elevator doors. The control panel of the Beckhoff PLC is programmed in TwinCAT. With the control panel you can send the elevator to a particular floor and it checks of the elevator is in express or fire mode. In practice this is very useful for emergency situations. For example during a fire, the firestation can be contacted immediately to remotely change the the elevator to 'fire mode'. This causes the elevator to come to the ground floor with the doors opening automatically once it has reached its target destination. These two PLCs can also be installed in a home automation system using a DNS-name that is associated with a static IP address. The second part is about the integration of the lift program in the S300 to S1200. Where a new touchscreen is programmed in Siemens TIA which you can operate the elevator.

Abstract

Hybrids vehicles have a long history and a promising future and Belgium is part of it. They have a very large variety of architectures and technical options. Each one with very different results depending not only the physical disposition but also the energy management policy. The characteristics of different architectures and its specificities have been studied in this work, focusing in the series-parallel configuration known as AutoMixte.
Buses, as a particular kind of vehicle, have specific requirements. The utilization of hybrid powertrains in buses is a very interesting way to reduce the pollution and the congestion in the cities at the same time, with very low investments in infrastructure and reducing the fuel consumption and the fuel-dependency of the town.
Planetary gears are widely used in vehicles. In addition to the differential gear, they are one of the main components of automatic gearboxes, accumulating key advantages like longer life span and higher compactness for relatively higher ratios. The design established the optimum speed ratio as an adaptation of the speed range of the power machines to the bus speed range. The complete design respected particular compatibility rules and verified the loaded resistance using commercial software and classic formulas from international standards.
The integration of the planetary gears was modelled in a global system model with all the powertrain elements in order to obtain the total maximum mechanical output of the bus. The verification of the performance of the vehicle includes a gradeability and an acceleration simulation.
This work ends with the simulation of the consumption of this powertrain in the bus assuming one particular energy management policy and the standardised test for buses know as SORT. The efficiencies of the electrical machines were taken into account as well as the charging and discharging efficiencies of the battery. Specific consumption maps of the engine were used to calculate the fuel consumption of the bus.

Abstract

Finding the way to a cleaner future is one of the main goals of our society. 
There is a solution with the fuel cell electric vehicles. They would allow us to change driving propulsions with hydrocarbon fuels onto zero-emission motors. This is the future.
Car companies have already started the production of small cars. However, rather than writing about these, it is more interesting to think of the possibilities it would give with public transport. Make a change and try to obtain a zero-emission public transport network is a wonderful challenge. 
How would Liège and Wallonia create a fuel cell electric buses network ? This work studies two major aspects : 
1.the costs - in comparison with diesel and hybrid motor propulsions ;
2.the supply chain, from the production of hydrogen to the distribution and gas stations

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to design a part of the Electrical Power Supply (EPS) board of the nanosatellite OUFTI-2. The parameters to be fixed are the solar panels’ configuration and management, the Battery Management System (BMS), and their connection to the DC-DC converters distributing the power to all sub-systems. The battery pack, the solar panels and the DC-DC converters are already chosen from previous works on the satellite. The limitations and requirements imposed by the choice of these components are analysed. The state of the art of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)technology as well as Battery Management Systems (BMS) of Lithium-Polymer (LiPo) are summarised and compared. From this knowledge, several relevant EPS designs combining different MPPT controllers and BMS configurations are discussed and tested as well as their power paths. The final design is chosen to be a semi-regulated bus architecture connecting two SPV1040 MPPT controllers in series and an MCP73213 linear BCR to the DC-DC converters. Finally, the power budget of the satellite’s consumption and harvested power based on the chosen design is discussed. This first analysis ensures a net power margin of 300mW in the worst case orbit scenario, for a standard mode operation.
