Abstract

The variety of future powertrain concepts has drastically increased the development cost for automotive manufactures. Profitable investment requires a significantly leaner and efficient powertrain development process. Traditional methods of test and model based development need to be assisted by big data and data analytics. For this purpose, a valuable tool is available at the right time - artificial intelligence (AI). But what does AI really mean in a narrower sense? What concepts lie behind it? And how are the methods and algorithms transferable to powertrain applications? For the first time, this book aims to bridge the gap between automotive engineering and computer science, by illuminating the complexity of current AI concepts and demystifying it for powertrain applications. By elaborating on work processes, it shows how AI could be implemented and how completely novel methods can help us reshape the future of mobility. Target groups: Engineers in the field of powertrain development Engineers & computer scientists in the field of artificial intelligence Development departments of the automotive industry Suppliers, service providers of the automotive industry, IT industry (AI experts, start-ups etc.) Universities and research institutions All interested readers with technical background knowledge The author: Dr. Aras Mirfendreski has developed into an engine-expert throughout the German and international scientific landscape (studied at RWTH Aachen University, doctorate at Audi AG). Through his experience as a powertrain developer at Stuttgart FKFS for various OEMs as well as his activities as a senior program manager at Toyota, his developments always thrive on the transfer of state-of-the-art methods into corporate structures. Today, he serves as Vice President Engine R&D at Aquarius Engines and is also an AI expert, keynote speaker and consultant on artificial intelligence topics.

It covers well-established topics as well as emerging developments in control engineering, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, pattern recognition and statistics. At the same time, a growing number of applications of different fault diagnosis methods, especially in electrical, mechanical, chemical and medical engineering, is being observed. This monograph contains a collection of 44 carefully selected papers contributed by experts in technical and medical diagnostics, and constitutes a comprehensive study of the field. The aim of the book is to show the bridge between technical and medical diagnostics based on artificial intelligence methods and techniques. It is divided into four parts:          I.   Soft Computing in Technical Diagnostics,        II.   Medical Diagnostics and Biometrics,      III.   Robotics and Computer Vision,       IV.   Various Problems of Technical Diagnostics. The monograph will be of interest to scientists as well as academics dealing with the problems of designing technical and medical diagnosis systems. Abstract

Today, digital technologies represent an absolute must when it comes to creating new products and factories. However, day-to-day product development and manufacturing engineering operations have still only unlocked roughly fifty percent of the "digital potential". The question is why? This book provides compelling answers and remedies to that question. Its goal is to identify the main strengths and weaknesses of today's set-up for digital engineering working solutions, and to outline important trends and developments for the future. The book concentrates on explaining the critical basics of the individual technologies, before going into deeper analysis of the virtual solution interdependencies and guidelines on how to best align them for productive deployment in industrial and collaborative networks. Moreover, it addresses the changes needed in both, technical and management skills, in order to avoid fundamental breakdowns in running information technologies for virtual product creation in the future.

Abstract

This book is a pioneering exploration of a new form of high-frequency attenuation chamber that has the potential to revolutionize antenna measurement techniques. The authors present an innovative concept that leverages the classical principle of changing the polarization of radio waves, eliminating the need for traditional non-reflection chambers. By analyzing experimental results and searching for the optimal shape and composition of a depolarization panel, this monograph provides valuable insights into creating a non-reflective environment for accurately measuring the directional properties of antennas. The book delves into the methodology of frequency analysis, optimization of the depolarization panel, and the creation of a measuring workplace using this panel. It highlights the crucial attenuation phenomenon of suppressing cross-polarization coupling between transmitting and receiving antennas, enabling antenna measurements in any laboratory environment. With its promising results and practical applications in antenna technology, this publication offers a compelling and cutting-edge approach to antenna measurement that will captivate researchers, engineers, and professionals in the field. .

Abstract

This book focuses on wave propagation phenomena in elastic solids modelled by the use of the finite element method. Although the latter is a well-established and popular numerical tool used by engineers and researchers all around the word the process of modelling of wave propagation can still be a challenge. The book introduces a reader to the problem by presenting a historical background and offering a broad perspective on the development of modern science and numerical methods. The principles of wave phenomena are clearly presented to the reader as well as the necessary background for understanding the finite element method, which is the following chapter of the book is viewed from the modeller point-of-view. Apart from the principles the book also addresses more advanced topics and problems including the use of the spectral-finite element method, the spline-based finite element method as well as the problems of undesired and hidden properties of discrete numerical models.

Abstract

In the last decades, machine learning techniques – especially techniques of deep learning – led to numerous successes in many application areas, including economics. The use of machine learning in economics is the main focus of this book; however, the book also describes the use of more traditional econometric techniques. Applications include practically all major sectors of economics: agriculture, health (including the impact of Covid-19), manufacturing, trade, transportation, etc. Several papers analyze the effect of age, education, and gender on economy – and, more generally, issues of fairness and discrimination. We hope that this volume will: help practitioners to become better knowledgeable of the state-of-the-art econometric techniques, especially techniques of machine learning, and help researchers to further develop these important research directions. We want to thank all the authors for their contributions and all anonymous referees for their thorough analysis and helpful comments.

Abstract

Jean Petitot is a polyhedric thinker whose contributions has been fundamental in a number of disciplines, such as epistemology, morphodynamics, differential geometry, structural semiotics, neurogeometry, phenomenology, linguistics, cognitive grammars, the theory of catastrophes, social sciences, literary studies, and aesthetics. This book is a homage to his huge contribution about the main concepts of morphogenesis and meaning that constitute the center of gravity around which Petitotian reflection revolves and returns. The scientific path of Jean Petitot develops between these two poles, topology and meaning. At stake it was to challenge the hiatus separating the exact sciences from the humanities that was the main point of the Petitot seminar of EHESS Epistemology of Models. By designing the appropriate qualitative dynamics between the two poles, form and meaning, it is possible to understand the Saussurian sign in structural semiotics, or the Greimasian semiotic square for deep narrative structures or even the canonical formula of the myth of Lévi Strauss in structural anthropology. These are just few results in applying the theory of catastrophes to the emergence of meaning. The book is a collection of testimonies by distinguished authors who worked extensively with Jean Petitot in the different fields of Mathematics, Neurogeometry, Semiotics, Aesthetics, and Epistemology. An extensive bibliography of Petitot’s work is also presented. .
