This edited book addresses a range of aspects of internationalization in vocational education and training (VET) in different countries. It considers the impact of internationalization and student mobility on VET at the sectoral, institutional and individual levels as the sector emerges as a key tool for social and structural change in developing nations and as a flexible and entrepreneurial means of growth in developed nations. The book explores not only the effects of the neo-liberal market principle underpinning VET practices and reforms, but importantly considers internationalization as a powerful force for change in vocational education and training. This book focuses on models, strengths, opportunities, constraints and tensions in internationalisation in Vietnamese higher education. It reflects on key concepts from contemporary theories and models of internationalisation and discusses the implications for innovation, flexibility and responsiveness to local needs in Vietnam. Based on empirical research, theoretical knowledge and the experiences of researchers from Vietnam and overseas, the book draws out the distinctiveness and complexity of internationalisation practices and charts a way forward. It examines the key drivers and dimensions of internationalising Vietnamese higher education, and compares internationalisation in Vietnam to that in other countries. It clarifies and discusses tensions related to the appropriation of ‘Western’ internationalisation practice and models, and neo-liberal ideologies, to the local context of Vietnam. This book explores the issue of graduate employability in regional Vietnam. It provides a critical discussion of not only the demands of the labour market but also the practices and challenges in the development of graduate employability and career capacity building at the national, institutional and individual levels. It discusses graduate employability in Vietnam by analysing government and institutional policies and taking into account the perspectives and experiences of three key stakeholders: employers, graduates and universities. The book highlights the development of 'employability in context' for graduates in regional Vietnam to be able to adapt to the specific social, cultural and demographic conditions of the region and tackle new employment challenges. Ly Thi Tran is Professor in the School of Education, Deakin University, Australia. Her work focuses on internationalisation of education, student mobilities, international student graduate employability, the New Colombo Plan, staff professional learning in international education and Vietnamese higher education. Nga Thi Hang Ngo is a Lecturer in the Faculty of General Education at Tay Bac University, Vietnam. Her research interests include education access and equity and employability for ethnic minorities. Hoa Thi Mai Nguyen is Associate Professor and Co-Chair of the Teacher Education and Development Research Group in the School of Education at the University of New South Wales, Australia, specialising in teacher education/development, mentoring and sociocultural theory. Truc Thi Thanh Le is a Lecturer of English at Humber College, Canada and Phu Xuan University, Vietnam. Her research activities and publications mainly focus on professional development and professional learning in international education and graduate employability.
