People with advancing neurological disease face increasing physical symptoms, along with psychosocial and spiritual issues affecting both themselves and their families and carers. There is increasing awareness that the end of life in neurological disease can be anticipated and recognised, taking into account certain key features of disease progression, and the associated issues can be addressed. The individual can prepare for future changes in their health, and be in a stronger position to influence or direct the care they receive. End of Life Care in Neurological Disease encourages health and social care professionals to become closely involved in the care of these people and their families, to maintain and maximise quality of life and plan ahead. This book addresses the principles and practice of end of life care for neurological disease, is written with a clinical, multidisciplinary focus, and is enriched with detailed case studies. This book is an accessible text for the multidisciplinary team in specialist palliative care, and will also be of interest to healthcare professionals in neurological services, including neurologists and neurology specialist nurses, rehabilitation services, general practitioners and community nurses. As care professionals, we are in a powerful position to help those who are living with advanced neurological disease and improve their quality of life and death.

Anyone interested in ALS/MND-physician, patient, or healthcare policy director -should read this book and learn from it. -Walter G. Bradley D.M., F.R.C.P., Professor and Chairman Emeritus, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, USA "This book illustrates the inequities in the accessibility of quality neurological care existing globally and which forms a major target for redress by the World Federation of Neurology and the World Health Organisation." -William M Carroll AM, MBBS, MD, FRACP, FRCP(E), President, World Federation of Neurology This book focuses on the public policy and political/ethical dimensions of ALS/MND across a wide selection of countries and argues for the need of a multidisciplinary and international approach. Policy issues addressed include adequacy of funding for research and care, payment policy and regulatory functions of public and private insurers, long-term services and caregiver support, public health and prevention efforts, access to genetic testing and assisted technologies, ensuring a competent and adequate workforce especially for hands-on caregivers, and the challenging issues of providing palliative and hospice care for ALS/MND patients, advance directives and assisted suicide that face policy makers in all political jurisdictions. Research in and on architecture is as complex as the discipline itself with its different specialist fields, and therefore the results often remain unconnected.Research Culture in Architecture combines digital and analog research issues and demonstrates how important cross-disciplinary cooperation in architecture is today. The complexity and increasing specialization are elaborated on in the various chapters and then linked to the core of architecture, i.e. design.Scientists from the theoretical and practical fields present research results in the following subjects: "design methodology", "architectural space, perception, and the human body", "analog and digital timber construction", "visualization", "robotics", "architectural practice and research", and "sustainability".
