Durant une année, nous avons étudié de façon prospective 118 nourrissons zaïrois de moins de 2 ans, atteints d’une pleurésie. 49 de ces 118 cas (41.52%) avaient développé leur pleurésie en post-rougeole tandis que, chez les 69 autres (58.47%), il n’y avait pas eu d’antécédents de rougeole.
Notre étude a montré que la morbidité et la mortalité était nettement plus importante chez les enfants en post-rougeole (26.53% contre 10.14%). Le staphylocoque doré fut le germe le plus fréquemment rencontré dans les deux groupes d’enfants. Cette étude a montré également que la gravité de la rougeole est directement liée aux conditions socio-économiques défavorables des parents.
Pour éradiquer ce fléau qu’est la rougeole, plusieurs mesures sont envisagées : d’une part, la prévention de la rougeole par la vaccination et, d’autre part, la lutte contre le sous-développement : celle-ci comprendra une meilleure alimentation du nourrisson, un meilleur respect des mesures d’hygiène et diététiques, la lutte contre les maladies associées telles que malaria, verminose, gastro-entérique, amibiase intestinale et hépatique.
En présence d’une rougeole compliquée, des soins urgents, précoces et spécifiques sont bien sûr de rigueur. Ce n’est qu’à ce prix que la rougeole deviendra une maladie épisodique comme dans es pays à haute technicité.
