This dissertation explores novel treatment strategies for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), a condition characterized by the weakening of the aortic wall due to inflammation and vascular remodeling. The author investigates cellular and molecular pathways involved in AAA, utilizing animal models and human biopsies. Key findings include the role of toll-like receptors in immune response, the protective effects of imatinib and adiponectin, and the contribution of periaortic adipose tissue inflammation. The research aims to develop drug-based therapies for AAA, a disease currently managed primarily through imaging and surgical techniques.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the factors that influence the development of type 2 endoleak in endovascular repair of abdominal aneurysm. What are those factors? ls it possible to prevent the development of type 2 endoleak ? What is the best treatment? This study is based on a retrospective study of 185 patients files treated in St-LucUniversity Clinic for abdominal aorta aneurysm between April 1995 and October 2010.The median age is 74 years-old (49-94) with 85% of male. The median diameter of the aneurysms was 57 mm (35-100).The variables we studied are the cardiovascular risk factors (high blood pressure, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, obesity, smoking), the presence of kidney failure, the presence of coronarian insufficiency. We also studied the success of pre-operative embolization. The follow-up has been done with the Eurostar protocol with at least one abdominal CT-Scan per year.During the follow-up, 9 patients

This dissertation by Jakob Hager explores the clinical challenges and strategies to reduce mortality from ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (rAAA), a condition primarily affecting elderly men. The work examines aspects such as referral patterns, risk factors, and the effectiveness of screening programs. It highlights the critical role of early detection through screening to prevent ruptures and discusses the impact of various surgical and non-surgical management techniques. The research underscores the importance of strategic healthcare decisions and policies to improve survival rates, emphasizing that current referral practices do not significantly alter mortality outcomes. The intended audience for this detailed medical study includes healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers interested in vascular surgery and public health strategies.

This guideline covers diagnosing and treating an aneurysmal (caused by a ruptured aneurysm) subarachnoid haemorrhage and its complications. It provides recommendations to improve diagnosis and ensure that the most effective treatments are offered. It includes guidance on follow-up care and information for people (aged 16 and over) who have had an aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage, their families and carers.
