Gutenberg's invention of the printing press in the fifteenth century marked the beginning of a new era in the transmission of knowledge, the spread of ideologies, and the administration of peoples. Even if the Mughal emperor Jahāngīr (d. 1627), when presented with a printed copy of the Gospels, expressed his interest in exploring the possibilities for the printing of texts in nastaʿlīq in movable type, it would take another two hunderd years before the people of the Indian subcontinent started printing themselves. In the 1820's, when Indians began using western printing techniques to reproduce texts in local languages, they preferred lithographs over movable type. The former required less technology, were typographically superior, and also closer to the traditional reading experience. Movable type came only later. The printing of Persian texts had its heyday between the 1820's and 1850's. The present inventory shows the immense richness of two centuries of Persian printing on the Indian subcontinent. 4 vols; volume 1.

Comprehensive bibliography of Spanish books printed in the Southern Netherlands (present-day Belgium) until 1800. It includes books in Spanish (even in part) printed within the present frontiers of Belgium, but also books printed under a fictitious Belgian imprint, or, vice versa, in Belgium under a fictitious foreign imprint, as well as imprints without place or publisher whose subject matter suggests a Belgian origin. 1413 Titles (plus a few Addenda) are described in great detail. A chronological list (1520-1785) and extensive Indexes at end. All the marks and devices of the printers and publishers dealt with are reproduced in the original size. Awarded the Triennial Prize for Bibliography of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9789060041253).

Der vorliegende Band thematisiert Rolle und Selbstwahrnehmung der Archivare zwischen dem späten Kaiserreich und dem Ende der Weimarer Republik, einer Zeit rasanter Veränderungen in politischer, historiografischer und wissensgeschichtlicher Hinsicht. Mit dieser chronologischen Perspektivierung trägt der Band einerseits der politischen und institutionellen Tatsache Rechnung, dass der politische und staatsrecht-liche Umbruch am Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges die organisatorischen und institutionel-len Grundlagen des Archivwesens massiv beeinflusste. Andererseits möchte der Band dezidiert eine Verengung allein auf den politisch-staatlichen Systemwechsel vermeiden, denn keineswegs alle prägenden Entwicklungen des deutschen Archivwesens dieser Zeit lassen sich auf diese Ebene zurückführen.
