Paulo Freire cumple 100 años. ¿Qué celebramos en torno a esta conmemoración? La presencia viva y vital del extraordinario legado político-pedagógico del genial educador brasileño. Recordar es hacer presente, y este texto colectivo busca -convocando cien voces de educadores y educadoras de todo el continente-, dialogar con Paulo Freire y entre nosotros y nosotras, sobre los múltiples significados y alcances de su legado y la imperiosa necesidad de mantenerlo vivo y actualizado ante los ínéditos desafíos sociales y educativos que nos plantea el siglo XXI. CLACSO y la Secretaría de Educación de Bogotá han aunado esfuerzos para hacer posible este libro que, esperamos, circule de mano en mano y entre educadores y educadoras con la misma pasión y convicción con la que Freire nos enseñó a dialogar con los otros y las otras para transformar el mundo.

El tema de estudio de este libro se centra en la época precardenista de los años treinta donde se ubica una serie de antinomias referentes a la campesinidad problematizadas por los maestros rurales e intelectuales pedagogos, cuestiones que para el autor lejos de haberse resuelto, todavía están presentes en la agenda política y cultural del país. Constituye pues, un estudio destinado al análisis del proceso de construcción del imaginario social en el periodo posrevolucionario.
