The publication presents results of ethnographic research of holidays of 21st Century in Slovakia. The original empirical findings described in the different chapters of this monograph present opinions of authors through the study of specific holidays on their current social functions, and outline the picture of the Slovak society in the 21st century in the mirror of these holidays. Particular parth of the publication focuses on three chosen holidays: Anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP), Christmas and Halloween. The aim of the publication "Selected problems of thanatology" is to point out to the issues of death and dying, which are - in addition to the strong taboo - subject to many mistaken beliefs. From a psychological point of view it discusses the death concept in children during ontogenesis. Following chapters are dedicated to neglect of the needs of the sick and dying who, due to lack of information, ignorance and unwillingness of their surroundings, are dying without the control of symptoms and saturation of somatic, psychological and spiritual needs. The lack of knowledge has consequences for the mourning process in which subjects often experience complications, pathology that are not identified and are left without professional intervention. The publication is primarily intended for students of psychology programs; however, it can enrich all helping professions.
