This book (Living in Chosun: Crossroad of Traditions) shows the scenery of Yangdong in North Gyeongsang Province, a representative village of Joseon. In Joseon, the separate location of residential areas of yangban aristocrats and local officials guaranteed the independence of the two leading constituents of village society. Sons and daughters were equal in inheriting their parents' estate in the 16th century. The book also shows the life of Yi Eon-jeok (1491-1553), the neo-Confucian scholar from Yangdong village, and the life of independent women of Joseon
