The time between the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy in 1918 and the Nazi seizure of power in 1938 was a period of prosperity for the Viennese Faculty for Law and State. In particular the Vienna School of Legal Theory, founded by Hans Kelsen, and the Austrian School of Economics with its head Ludwig Mises enjoyed high international prestige. The book examines the history of the faculty in the period 1918-1938, not only as a history of legal sciences, but also in socio-historical terms. Because the fate of individual careers as well as of whole scientific schools were connected intimately with the political developments of the time and the personalities that shaped the life of the faculty. The introduction of women's studies and the role of anti-Semitism for the Faculty events are therefore also discussed such as the beginnings of criminology or the civil law teachings of Oskar Pisko.
