Abstract

The reference work "Science of Synthesis: N-Heterocyclic Carbenes in Catalytic Organic Synthesis" provide a user's guide to NHC chemistry and catalysis, thus facilitating the introduction of NHCs to novices and also helping to expand the repertoire of synthetic tools available to the more-advanced researcher, enabling the design of new catalysts and reactions.Volume 1 provides a detailed introduction to NHCs, with discussion of their architectures and steric and electronic properties.Volume 2 covers the use of NHCs in the various types of metathesis reaction, polymerization, cyclization reactions, oxidation reactions, and carbonylation/carboxylation reactions.

Abstract

In 1912, the Chemistry Nobel Prize was awarded for the discovery of the so-called Grignard reagents. Nowadays, many transition metal variants are developed to modify reactivity and selectivity of the C-C bond formation reaction. The Grignard reaction is one of the fundamental organometallic reactions, often used in alcohol syntheses. With transition metals like iron, cobalt and nickel or with noble metals like copper, silver and palladium, modern Grignard reagents can be designed in reactivity, selectivity and functional group tolerance. This book, written by international experts, presents an overview on timely Grignard chemistry involving transition metals.
