Presents the first comprehensive review of the charges, the evidence, and the effects of media bias allegations. By carefully narrowing his definition of media bias to charges from conservatives such as Rush Limbaugh that the American media is tilted by partisanship, Niven is able to present an "unbiased" measurement of media bias. After examining some of the academic literature regarding partisan bias in the media, he presents the results of a comparative study exploring how the media treats issues of unemployment under different presidents. By sidestepping issues of structural and class bias that go unchanged under a steady stream of presidents, he is able to suggest that the media displays no tilt.

In defiance of their judicial rhetoric, their conclusions simply defy their, or any, conception of consistency. And without a logical, consistent foundation, their findings on the death penalty come to resemble little more than personal political
