Zolang er geen rekening gehouden wordt met diversiteit op de werkvloer, blijven er tal van ongelijkheden bestaan die vrouwen (maar ook etnische minderheden) belemmeren in hun carrière. Dat is het uitgangspunt van dit boek. Er wordt aangetoond dat gender een concept is dat dergelijke ongelijkheden zichtbaar maakt en kan verklaren waarom vrouwen het ook in 'vrouwvriendelijke' bedrijven niet gemakkelijk hebben.
