Consists of booklet (28 cm.) tipped in at beginning, from which title page information is taken, and 100 photographic prints tipped in on leaves of decorative paper containing letterpress legends. Photos are numbered in the negative 1-100; they bear the photographer's blind stamp "Jph. Buyens, Gand, Ch. d. Swynaerde 185," and some are also stamped on verso: "Studio Jph. Buyens, Gand, Gent, tel. 10474." Photos depict shrines on walls and building facades containing sculpted or painted images of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the patron saint of Ghent; many erected by Ghent's historical neighborhood associations (gebuurten).
