The Battle of Gallipoli was the Britain’s most bitter defeat of the First World War. This volume seeks to place the Dardanelles campaign in proper perspective. It situates Gallipoli in the larger context of the First World War, and describes the role played by the “inconclusiveness” of Gallipoli in the national memories of the successor states of the British Empire.

Bringing Buddhism to Tibet is a landmark study of the Dba’ bzhed, a text recounting the introduction of Buddhism to Tibet. The narrative of Buddhism’s arrival in Tibet is known from a number of versions, but the Dba’ bzhed—preserved in a single manuscript—is the oldest complete copy. Although the Dba’ bzhed stands at the head of a long tradition of history writing in the Tibetan language, and has been known for more than two decades, this book provides a full transcription of the Tibetan for the first time, together with a new translation. The book also introduces Tibetan history and the Dba’ bzhed with several introductory chapters on various aspects of the text by experienced scholars in the field of Tibetan philology. These detailed studies provide analysis of the text’s narrative context, its position within traditional and current historiography, and the organisation and structure of the text itself and its antecedents. Bringing Buddhism to Tibet is essential reading for anyone interested in Tibetan history and kingship, the nature of Tibetan historical narrative or the traditions of text transmission and codicology. The book will also be of general interest to students of Buddhism and the spread of Buddhism across Asia. Where the transliteration of Tibetan in the footnotes and appendices to this volume does not follow the standard modified Wylie system, it accords with the more rigorous codicological system adopted by editors of the Old Tibetan Documents Online portal (see under “Editorial Policy” at https://otdo.aa-ken.jp/). For instance, the reverse gi gu is transliterated with the upper case “I” and stacked letters that are not found in the Classical Tibetan orthography of indigenous words are transliterated with the “+” sign (e. g., dhi with a subscribed ha is d+hi), the sign marking the beginning of a folio, paragraph, etc. is transliterated with $ and the anusvāra is transliterated with M (capital letter).

This volume presents recent critical work on Edgar Allan Poe and psychology. It began in 2012 after careful consideration of what was lacking in Poe scholarship. Upon months of combing through archives at McGill University, Concordia University, as well as JSTOR I discovered that nothing on Edgar Allan Poe and psychology had come around in many years. After more consideration I posted a Call for Papers and received at least thirty responses from scholars from all areas of the world. Finally, in August 2018I made a selection of the six manuscripts which reflect the current attitudes toward Poe’s work and psychology.

Harvard University Graduate School of Design was the leader of this research project, which took place in 2011-2015, entitled Gulf Sustainable Urbanism (GSU). Scholars from Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq and Iran (in geographic order) contributed to the research. The focus of this first part of the research is the past of urbanism in the coastal region, aiming to propose a future sustainable urbanization, both environmentally and socio- economically. A study of urbanization patterns of the past was conducted for eight coastal cities and two associated hinterland cities in eight countries surrounding the Gulf. Urban and regional histories were summarized to understand the complex relationships that generated long-lasting urban forms and efficient building designs.

The existence of World Literature depends on specific processes, institutions, and actors involved in the global circulation of literary works. The contributions of this volume aim to pay attention to these multiple material dimensions of Latin American 20th and 21st century literatures. From perspectives informed by materialism, sociology, book studies, and digital humanities, the articles of this volume analyze the role of publishing houses, politics of translation, mediators and gatekeepers, allowing insights into the processes that enable books to cross borders and to be transformed into globally circulating commodities. The book focusses both on material (re)sources of literary archives, key actors in literary and cultural markets, prizes and book fairs, as well as on recent dimension of the digital age. Statements of some of the leading representatives of the global publishing world complement these analyses of the operations of selection and aggregation of value to literary texts.
