The past decade has witnessed significant progress in the diagnosis and treatment of nasopharyngeal cancer. Radiation therapy, used with curative intent, has undergone important technological advances, and combined chemotherapy and radiation has also become an established option. As a result, outcomes among patients with localized disease have improved markedly, with higher overall survival, better locoregional disease control, less treatment-induced toxicity, and better quality of life. However, most of the developments that have taken place are complex, and often not fully understood by physicians in general oncology practice without specialization in the treatment of head and neck cancer. Against this background, Nasopharyngeal Cancer - Multidisciplinary Management aims to provide a comprehensive account of the current state of knowledge of nasopharyngeal cancer and its multidisciplinary management. The first ten chapters contain essential information on subjects such as epidemiology, pathogenesis, molecular biology, pathology, and the use of imaging in diagnosis and staging. Subsequent chapters examine in depth the various treatment options and explain combinations in a range of settings. Detailed attention is given to the roles of concurrent, adjuvant, and neoadjuvant chemotherapy and advanced radiotherapy techniques. Further chapters then explore surgical options, follow-up, treatment of metastatic disease, treatment-related and complications and nasopharyngeal cancer in children. This is an important book that meets an urgent need and will prove essential reading for the oncology community worldwide.

This volume intends to contribute to “translational medicine and biology”. By this, we mean a bi-directional process whose aim is to develop knowledge from basic science towards diagnostic and therapeutic applications and reciprocally to raise new questions for basic scientists. One general requirement for translational research is to establish a multidisciplinary knowledge base shared by the actors of various specialties. This is precisely the aim of the 12 chapters of this book. It will be useful for scientists, including PhD students, who want to become more familiar with the main concepts of NPC pathology, medical imaging and current therapeutics. Conversely, medical doctors who want to update their knowledge of NPC biology will benefit from chapters on viral and cellular oncogenesis and various aspects of host-tumor interactions.

This book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date description of the diagnosis and management of dysphagia, with particular reference to oral and pharyngeal dysfunction. All aspects of dysphagia are covered, from anatomy and physiology to patient care. Alongside descriptions of a variety of disease entities, signs and symptoms, and treatment approaches, many other relevant topics are addressed, including endoscopic and manometric aspects, malnutrition and dehydration, the psychiatric burden, and features specific to pediatric and geriatric patients. The authors are without exception renowned experts in their field. This book will be of value to all specialists involved in the evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, including ENT surgeons, thoracic surgeons, speech and language pathologists, phoniatricians, gastroenterologists, neurologists, and radiologists.
