Dieser Entwurfsatlas für den Wohnungsbau dokumentiert und analysiert rund 130 internationale Wohnungsbauten aus den letzten 50 Jahren. Von den standardisierten Grundrissen der 1960er-Jahre über die in den 1980er-Jahren angestrebten individuellen Konzepte, bis hin zu den gewandelten Anforderungen und Wohnformen jüngerer Zeit zeigen exemplarische Bauten berühmter und weniger bekannter Architekten aus aller Welt die Vielfalt der entwerferischen Möglichkeiten. Die Gliederung der Projekte in städtebauliche Kategorien wird durch eine detaillierte typologische Beschreibung der jeweiligen Wohnform ergänzt. Jedes Projekt ist mit seinen typischen Grundrissen im Maßstab 1:200 dargestellt; Schnitt, Lageplan und Foto erläutern Lage und Aufbau des Gebäudes. Außer durch rund 40 neue Projekte wird diese Neuauflage durch Diagramme ergänzt, die jeden der dargestellten Grundrisse in der Art eines Figur-Grund-Plans im Maßstab 1:500 zusammenfassen. So werden die wesentlichen Qualitäten eines Grundrisses deutlich, und die Vergleichbarkeit der Projekte wird noch weiter optimiert. This housing construction design manual documents and analyzes some 130 international residential structures from the last fifty years. From the standardized floor plans of the 1960s to the more individual concepts of the 1980s and the changed requirements and housing types of recent years, example structures by famous and lesser known architects from throughout the world showcase the tremendous variety of possible designs. The categorization of projects from a town planning perspective is supplemented by the detailed typological description of the relevant housing types. Every project is presented with its typical floor plans to a scale of 1:200; sections, site plans, and photographs illuminate each building's structure and situation.In addition to incorporating some forty new projects, this new edition now contains figure-ground diagrams that highlight the most salient features of the floor plans, making them even easier to compare.

The Oxford bookseller and publisher John Henry Parker (1806-84), a supporter of the Tractarian movement and a friend of Cardinal Newman, was also a historian of architecture, whose two-volume Glossary of Terms Used in Grecian, Roman, Italian, and Gothic Architecture is also reissued in this series. In 1851, he published a volume on English domestic architecture from the Norman Conquest to 1300 by the antiquary Thomas Hudson Turner (1815-52), and on Turner's death he completed the second volume, on the fourteenth century, himself. Both volumes are highly illustrated with line drawings and plans. Volume 1, after an introductory chapter about pre-Conquest buildings, discusses architectural plans, features, building materials and techniques of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and gives examples of surviving buildings, from grand to modest, all over England, as well as reproducing documents throwing light on the painting and decoration of medieval buildings.
