This doctoral dissertation by Abdul Maruf Asif Aziz investigates the potential of neuropeptide receptors as treatment targets for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). The research explores the roles of the nociceptin (NOP) receptor, neuropeptide Y (NPY) Y2 receptor, and melanin hormone (MCH) receptor 1 in regulating behaviors associated with AUD. Using animal models, the study examines the effects of specific agonists and antagonists on alcohol consumption, motivation, and relapse. The findings suggest that targeting these receptors could offer new therapeutic avenues for managing AUD by modulating anxiety and reward systems.
