Die 'Hessischen Reimpredigten', von einem unbekannten geistlichen Verfasser wohl im ersten Viertel des 14. Jahrhunderts gedichtet, sind eine Folge von 70 Perikopenpredigten in rund 26.300 Reimpaarversen zu den Evangelien der Sonntage des Jahreskreises, wichtiger Festtage, einiger Wochentage und zum Kirchweihfest. Die 'Hessischen Reimpredigten', die mit der Versform eine Sonderstellung in der mittelhochdeutschen Predigtüberlieferung einnehmen, gehören zusammen mit dem ‘Leben der heiligen Elisabeth’ und der ‘Erlösung’ zu den großen geistlichen Versdichtungen aus dem hessischen Raum um und nach 1300. Mit der vorliegenden Edition der ‘Hessischen Reimpredigten’ wird diese wichtige Dichtung erstmals vollständig in gedruckter Form zugänglich gemacht. In einem eigenen Untersuchungsteil werden zentrale Aspekte des Werks, seiner Sprache und Überlieferung vorgestellt. Der Schwerpunkt des Untersuchungsteils liegt auf der Analyse der Schreibsprache des Codex und der Reimsprache der ‘Hessischen Reimpredigten’ im Vergleich mit anderen westmitteldeutschen, vor allem rheinfränkisch-hessischen Handschriften und Texten des 13. und 14. Jahrhunderts, womit ein wesentlicher Beitrag zur Erforschung der hessischen Sprachgeschichte der Zeit geleistet wird.
