The essays collected in this volume explore how and by what means, from antiquity to the present day, the notion of 'the right moment' has been defined, visualized, and experienced. The authors approach the subject from a range of disciplines and often work at the intersection of several of them, including the history of art and architecture, philosophy and art theory, classics and comparative literature, the history of religion and theology, and anthropology. In addition to scholarly exposés, the book contains a number of personal musings and artistic reflections on 'the right moment' in various forms and kinds of imagination - visual, literary, and philosophical. The Right Moment originates in a festive symposium held at the Francqui Foundation in Brussels on 18 and 19 October 2018 in honour of Barbara Baert, Laureate of the 2016 Francqui Prize in Human Sciences.

This dissertation focuses on French crime fiction after 1968 and, in particular, one of its forms - roman noir. It analyses how this genre reflects contemporary French society and its position and role within it. In the second part, based on a selection of novels, the author specifies a number of themes which she finds are characteristic for the crime literature of this period. As a result of the analyses carried out in both parts of the thesis, the conclusion drawn is that French crime fiction after 1968 mainly represents the opinion base for the generation strongly influenced by the ultra left wing ideology of the May '68 riots. Subsequently, the genre has enabled this generation to disseminate its ideals and has presented the means for social and ideological criticism of French society.

The book is comprised of two parts - an overview of research into the history of the order of Regular Canons of St. Augustine in the German Lands, Poland and the Czech Lands and a collection of studies on the history of the canonry in Kladsko / Kłodzko / Glatz. The Kladsko monastery held an important position among the foundations of Archbishop of Prague Arnošt of Pardubice. The incorporation of the parish church to the monastery has been a relatively neglected institution. We are also advised of the form of election of the provost of the monastery. Around twenty-seven members of the Kladsko canonry of the pre-Hussite period have been identified by prosopographic research. The monastery in Kłodzko became a pilgrimage site by means of indulgence deeds.

The principal text translated in this volume is the Ta'rīkh Al-sūdān of the seventeenth-century Timbuktu scholar 'Abd al-Raḥmān al-Sa'dī. Thirty chapters are included, dealing with the history of Timbuktu and Jenne, their scholars, and the political history of the Songhay empire from the reign of Sunni 'Alī (1464-1492) through Moroccan conquest of Songhay in 1591 and down to the year 1613 when the Pashalik of Timbuktu became an autonomous ruling institution in the Middle Niger region. The year 1613 also marked the effective end of Songhay resistance. The other contemporary documents included are a new English translation of Leo Africanus's description of West Africa, some letters relating to Sa'dīan diplomacy and conquests in the Sahara and Sahel, al-Ifrānī's account of Sa'dīan conquest of Songhay, and an account of this expedition by an anonymous Spaniard. War is usually considered a men's affair, where women would only play secondary roles. Although they are actresses and witnesses of history, they constantly see their experience devalued. Yet, given the scale of the conflicts of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the entire population was affected. Since women have mobilized in different ways, it seems important to promote a reading of the warlike phenomenon according to the prism of the genre. This book is part of this perspective. By collecting contributions from historians and writers, this book describes both the complexity of women's wartime experiences and their representations in literature.
