This book, part of a series, seeks to re-conceptualize Asian geographies; rather than a static East Asia core, this volume analyzes Asia's southern fringe, as symbolized in the trading group ASEAN and its role in Asia's evolving international relations. The contributors include many leading experts in the field, ensuring that this book will be the go-to text for students, scholars, and civil society decision makers exploring Asia's contemporary political spectrum in real time.

This book brings together up-to-date research from prominent international scholars in a collaborative exploration of the Japan’s efforts to shape Asia’s rapidly shifting regional order. Pulled between an increasingly inward-looking America whose security support remains critical and a rising and more militarily assertive China with whom Japan retains deep economic interdependence, Japanese leaders are consistently maneuvering to ensure the country’s regional interests. Nuclear and missile threats from North Korea and historically problematic relations with South Korea further complicate Japanese endeavors. So too do the shifting winds of Japanese domestic politics, economics and identity. The authors weave these complex threads together to offer a nuanced portrait of both Japan and the region. Scholars, observers of politics, and policymakers will find this a timely and useful collection. T. J. Pempel, with a Ph.D. from Columbia University, is Jack M. Forcey Professor of Political Science in U.C. Berkeley's Department of Political Science which he joined in July 2001. He served as director of the Institute of East Asian Studies from 2002 until 2006. Yul Sohn, with a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in Political Science, is Professor of International Studies in Yonsei University's Graduate School of International Studies. He is also President of the East Asia Institute, a premier foreign policy think-tank in South Korea.

The second edition of this defining handbook provides an up-to-date reference on approaches to the principles and practice of negotiation, group decision-making, and collaboration. It includes the origins, development, and prospects of electronic negotiation, as well as on-line or computer-based arbitration. It constitutes a comprehensive guide to how traditional issues in negotiation, such as knowledge, language, strategy, fairness and justice, have been transformed by technology. The growing field of group decision and negotiation is best described as the empirical, formal, computational, and strategic analysis of group decision-making and negotiation, especially from the viewpoints of organizational behaviour, management science and operations research. The topic crosses many traditional disciplinary boundaries. It has connections to business administration and business strategy, management science, systems engineering, computer science, mathematics, law, economics, psychology, and other social sciences. The first edition greatly strengthened this advancing field. This thoroughly revised and considerably enlarged second edition maintains the approach and philosophy, while adding many important and emerging topics, and an entire section on the frameworks that have created the field. It is a comprehensive, accurate, reliable, and readable reference, and is a major reference volume in the field of group decision and negotiation. .

This is an open access book. This proceeding consists of research presented in ICOSI UMY, on 20-21 July 2022 at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The conference covers the topic of governance, international relations, law, education, humanities, and social sciences. The COVID-19 pandemic first time that occurred in 2019, has brought many changes that constrain all countries to adapt quickly. The crisis has shown vulnerabilities and gaps in several primary systems, including healthcare, social protection, education, value chains, production networks, financial markets, and the ecosystem. One of the efforts that each country can take to rise from the COVID-19 pandemic is through strengthening multilateralism, international solidarity, and global partnerships. Hence, this conference raises the central theme "Strengthening Global Partnership for Resilience." This theme covers sub-themes that allow prospective scholars to submit their papers for 'Virtual Conferences' presentation under the following scopes: Social Sciences, Humanities, Educations, and Religious Studies. Presented papers will also get a chance to be published in our remarkable partner publishers. Through the International Symposium on Social, Humanities, Education, and Religious Studies (ISSHERS) and Asian Conference on Comparative Laws (Asian-COL), we hope that participants will express their innovative and creative ideas to provide benefits and contribute knowledge to strengthen global partnerships among countries. Finally, all 75 papers published in this proceedings are expected not only as research output but can be developed further into prototypes or evidence for policy making.

The idea of human security, one of the human-centric norms born in the United Nation, has been criticized, embraced, and dynamically transformed in nations of East Asia (ASEAN Plus Three), where people are exposed to serious insecurities such as natural disasters, pollution, epidemics, armed conflicts and possible economic downturns. While there is a kaleidoscopic diversity of human security actors and aspirations, East Asians tend to think that human security and national sovereignty are compatible, and attach particular weight to freedom to live in dignity, one of the core values of human security. Elements of human security are already entrenched in the East Asian reality. This book ponders what, then, should be done next in this world of global connectivity. Yoichi Mine is Professor in the Graduate School of Global Studies at Doshisha University, Japan. Oscar A. Gómez is Research Fellow at the Japan International Cooperation Agency Research Institute (JICA-RI), Japan. Ako Muto is Senior Research Fellow at the Japan International Cooperation Agency Research Institute (JICA-RI), Japan.

This edited collection explores the ways in which the 2008/2009 social and economic crisis in Southern Europe affected the interpretation of the transitional past in Spain, Greece and Portugal. Discussing topics such as public memory, Europeanism and uses of the past by grassroots movements, the volume showcases how the crisis challenged consolidated perceptions of the transitions as ‘success stories’. It revisits the dominant historical narratives around Southern European transitions to democracy more than forty years since the demise of authoritarian regimes, bringing together contributors from history, cultural studies, political science and sociology. Maria Elena Cavallaro is Associate Professor of History of International Relations at LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome, Italy, and member of CIHDE (Centro de Investigaciones Históricas de la Democracia Española) in Madrid, Spain. He previously studied history in Munich, London and Florence and taught at Brown University and New York University. He was Marie Skłodowska Curie Experienced Fellow at the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid, Spain. Space Security involves the use of space (in particular communication, navigation, earth observation, and electronic intelligence satellites) for military and security purposes on earth and also the maintenance of space (in particular the earth orbits) as safe and secure areas for conducting peaceful activities. The two aspects can be summarized as "space for security on earth" and “the safeguarding of space for peaceful endeavors.” The second, updated edition of this handbook provides a sophisticated, cutting-edge resource on the space security portfolio and the associated technology, applications and programs to help fellow members of the global space community and other interested policy-making and academic audiences keep abreast of the current and future directions of this vital dimension of international space policy. Various dimensions of space security as well as space for security on Earth are described, covering space policy and the geopolitics of space, existing and planned applications and programs, as well as technological solutions. This second edition covers the recent space and security developments that have taken place in Europe and worldwide over the last years, along with new challenges that must be addressed. At its conclusion, the book provides foreward-looking recommendations, especially in the area of space governance and transparency and confidence-building measures.
