Abstract

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed noncutaneous neoplasm in men in the United States and is the second leading cause of cancer mortality. It poses diagnostic challenges in day-to-day practice in misdiagnosis of tumor-like lesions and secondary tumors. This book is a concise, practical guide to prostate pathology and is structured to guide pathologists, both practicing and trainees, in the diagnostic process. Numerous color images and algorithms show, in a practical manner, how to integrate pathologic and immunohistochemical features to reach a correct diagnosis in prostate tumors and tumor-like lesions. The book incorporates recent developments in biomarkers applied to immunohistochemistry, representing the best immunohistochemistry practice applied to current diagnosis of prostate cancer in biopsies and surgical specimens. It takes a multidisciplinary approach to the clinical management of prostate cancer and will also appeal to all healthcare professionals treating patients, particularly urologists, oncologists, biomedical scientists, and researchers. This book provides access to an online version on Cambridge Core, accessed via the code printed on the inside of the cover.

Abstract

The book covers all relevant topics of uropathology (tumoral and non-tumoral), from the normal histology of the genitourinary tract to pathological findings of diseases in the male genital and urinary tract. To make the content more accessible, all content is arranged alphabetically and each entry is uniformly structured, presenting the epidemiology, the clinical signs, the gross and histological features, the immunohistochemical stainings, and the molecular data for each disease. Histological pictures clarify the microscopic findings and help readers understand the differential diagnosis for genitourinary tract diseases. In addition to internationally respected experts on pathologies of the prostate, bladder, kidney and testis, researchers coming from other disciplines such as molecular biologists, soft tissue pathologists, dermatopathologists, hematopathologists and gynaecopathologists have contributed to this book, thus making it interesting for uropathologists, but also for students, residents, clinicians (surgeons, radiotherapists, oncologists, urologists, dermatologists) and researchers who deal with disciplines that call for knowledge of the pathologies of the male genital and urinary tracts.

Abstract

This concise, practical guide is structured to reflect the thought process of the practising pathologist. A key feature is the use of algorithms to aid in reaching the correct diagnosis, for both common and complex bladder tumors and tumor-like lesions. Its coverage of diagnostic criteria is in keeping with international standards and best practice, and the practical layout provides quick access to relevant information, integrating conventional histology, immunohistochemical markers and key clinical knowledge. Topics covered include the full spectrum of pathologic conditions that afflict the bladder and urothelium, as well as the pathology of the renal pelvis, ureter and the urethra. Accompanied by numerous images, this is an essential guide for trainee and practising surgical pathologists, urologists and oncologists.

Abstract

Due to common early development, the pathology of the urogenital tract in males and females present many similarities. Richly illustrated in colour throughout, this essential text evaluates the most common pathologies of the male and female urogenital tract, focussing on similarities, differences, and challenges. Images are colour coded by gender, and feature diagnostic algorithms and boxes highlighting key similarities and differences. This book is intended to bridge the gap between urologic and gynecologic specialties, whose diagnoses are rarely considered or studied together. Understanding common development, similarities and differences is extremely valuable for the evaluation of pathologic features and related dysfunctions. This comprehensive resource will be invaluable to urological and gynaecological pathologists, residents, general pathologists, and for consultants in urology and gynaecology to gain experience in the pathologic diagnostic rationale. This book provides entry to an online version on Cambridge Core, which can be accessed via the code printed on the inside of the cover.

Abstract

This book is a comprehensive guide to rare tumors and tumor-like conditions of the urinary system and male genital organs. It comprises five chapters, devoted to the kidney, bladder, prostate, testes, and penis. Each chapter begins with a brief overview of “common” tumors and tumor-like conditions and with a section on the classification of both common and rare entities. The main clinical, pathological, immunohistochemical, and molecular findings for each rare tumor or tumor-like condition are then described and discussed. Significant characteristics are also documented by representative high-quality illustrations, with emphasis on those aspects of most relevance to differential diagnosis. In addition, prognostic features are fully covered.   Urological Pathology: Rare Tumors and Tumor-Like Conditions will be ideal source of core information and practical guidance for residents, fellows, pathologists, urologists, and oncologists.
