Der Band versammelt Beiträge zur auffälligen Konjunktur idyllischer Gattungsparameter in Literaturen verschiedener Sprachen, illustrierten Medien und Bildkunst des langen neunzehnten Jahrhunderts. Für das Nachleben dieser antiken Gattung ist die These erkenntnisleitend, dass die Idylle mit ihrer Leitemotion des Glücks als Affektspeicher fungiert. Ausgehend von Jean Paul kann sie mit Aby Warburg als „Denkraum" verstanden werden. This volume brings together chapters on the conspicuous rise of idyllic genre parameters in the various literatures, illustrated media, and visual arts of the long nineteenth century. The theory behind the resurgence of this ancient genre is that the idyll, centered around the emotion of happiness, functions as a repository of affect. Building on Jean Paul, it can be understood with Aby Warburg as a "space for thought."
