Abstract

The aim of this book is to provide crisp information related to pathology, management and radiological/molecular imaging in breast carcinoma, along with detailed information on FDG PET-CT in breast cancer, normal variants, artefacts, pitfalls with atlas illustrations. The book is unique in providing quick reference to practice of PET/CT in breast cancer. The initial few chapters are related to the pathology and management of breast carcinoma to help understand the pathophysiology of breast cancer before going to the imaging. The chapter on imaging in breast cancer highlights the role of different imaging modalities for different indications to the reader. The last four chapters describe in detail the role, normal variants, artefacts and pitfalls of FDG PET/CT along with recent molecular imaging advances in breast cancer. Written by Pathology, Oncology, Radiology and Nuclear Medicine experts from different countries with enormous experience in breast cancer practice, the book addresses nuclear medicine physicians and radiologists, but it may be of interest to a wider medical community, including oncologists and radiotherapists. .

Abstract

This is the third, completely updated edition of a comprehensive book in which many of the world’s leading lung cancer specialists discuss the recent advances in the radiation oncology of lung cancer and reflect on the latest research findings in lung cancer and other intrathoracic malignancies. Lung cancer remains the major cancer killer in both sexes worldwide. It is so despite significant progress in recent decades in both diagnostic and treatment approaches. New biological and technological advances in this field are now faster incorporated in the overall decision-making process and are bringing fast and substantial improvements in both survivals and quality of life of lung cancer patients. Optimized patient-oriented approaches are reality of the third decade of this millennium and thoracic oncologists strive towards nothing but seamlessly delivering it in a continuous battle with lung cancer. The first three sections of the work cover the basic science of lung cancer, clinical investigations, including histology and staging, and a wide range of fundamental treatment considerations. Current treatment strategies for small cell and non-small cell lung cancer as well as other intrathoracic malignancies are then explained and evaluated in detail, with due attention to novel approaches that promise further improvements in outcome. The various types of treatment-related toxicity are discussed, and quality of life studies and prognostic factors are also considered. After evaluating the latest technological and biological advances, including stereotactic radiotherapy, and particle therapy, the book concludes by thorough consideration of specific aspects of clinical research in lung cancer. This concise yet comprehensive book is an invaluable resource for radiation oncologists.

Abstract

For the first time, in this atlas nuclear physicians and radiologists cover the entire hybrid nuclear medicine (PET/CT, SPECT/CT and PET/MRI), based on their own case studies. The structure in three volumes represents an user friendly guide for interpreting PET and SPECT in relation to co-registered CT and/or MRI. Three companion volumes with a practical structure in two-page unit offer to the reader a navigational tool, based on anatomical districts, with labeled and explained low-dose multiplanar CT or MRI views merged with PET fusion imaging on the right hand and contrast enhanced CT or MRI on the other side. This new format enables rapid identification of hybrid nuclear medicine findings which are now routine at leading medical centers. Volume 1 is focused on brain and neck PET imaging, with emphasis on PET/MRI; Volume 2 concerns thorax, abdomen and pelvis, with particular attention on lung and liver segmental anatomy and evaluation of peritoneum. Special chapters on heart, lymph nodes and musculoskeletal system, are collected in the Volume 3. Each chapter begins with three-dimensional CT and/or MRI views of the evaluated anatomical region, bringing forward sectional tables. Clinical cases, tricks and pitfalls linked to several PET or SPECT radiopharmaceuticals help to introduce the reader to peculiar molecular pathways and to improve confidence in cross-sectional imaging, that is vital for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Compact, comprehensive, easy to read guide to sectional imaging and multiplanar evaluation of hybrid PET and SPECT Includes 856 fully colored, labeled, high quality original images of axial, coronal and sagittal CT, contrast enhanced CT, PET/CT and/or PET/MRI Displays 200 clinical cases, showcasing both common and unusual findings that nuclear physicians and radiologists could encounter in their clinical practice Costant orthogonal references on 3D images allow orientation on axial, coronal and sagittal views Peculiar aspects of 18 PET and SPECT radiopharmaceuticals, defined by distinctive color scales Terms and descriptions mostly based on Terminologia Anatomica Specific text boxes explain anatomical variants, radiological advices and physiological findings linked to tracer bio-distribution Supports interpretation and report of hybrid nuclear medicine scans For professionals and vocationals.

Abstract

This book, now published in its second edition, covers a wide range of topics relating to the use of radiopharmaceuticals. The basics of nuclear chemistry, radiochemistry, and radiopharmacology are considered in detail, regulatory issues are reviewed, and potential applications in drug development, translational medicine, clinical diagnostics, and targeted therapy are discussed. Compared with the first edition, the chapters on targeted therapy with alpha- and beta-emitting radiopharmaceuticals and theranostics are completely new. Other chapters have been updated and revised as necessary. Radioisotope-based molecular imaging probes (radiopharmaceuticals) provide unprecedented insights into biochemistry and function in both normal and diseased states of living systems, with unbiased in vivo measurements of regional radiotracer activities offering very high specificity and sensitivity. No other molecular imaging technology, including functional magnetic resonance imaging, can provide such high sensitivity and specificity at a tracer level. This book, written by an experienced radiochemist and scientist, offers valuable insights into the full range of applications of this technology.

Abstract

"Clinical PET/MR presents the state-of-the-art of PET/MR, guiding the reader from how to scan patients, how to read and report the studies, and how keep an eye on what is clinically relevant for a patient's care. Each chapter starts with the clinical scenario and then moves to pertinent imaging, addressing the need of a clinical PET/MR book written by world experts in both clinical and imaging fields. It discusses the clinical application of PET/MR in diverse subspecialties such as head and neck, neurology, cardiovascular, pediatrics, chest, bone, hematology, breast, hepatobiliary pancreatic, genitourinary, gynecology, and gastrointestinal tract. This book is a valuable resource for radiologists, oncologists and members of the biomedical field who need to learn more about clinical applications of PET/MR."--Provided by publisher

Abstract

Artistieke kruisbestuiving was fundamenteel. Matthias Depoorter is schrijver en kunsthistoricus.
