"Since the nineteenth century, scholars have debated the controversial relationships between humanism, the Renaissance and the Reformation. Challenging the dominant narrative on the subject, Giovanni Tortoriello reconstructs the debates that characterized the early Reformation movements. He shows that Martin Luther's theology of the cross developed in reaction to the irenic tendencies of the Renaissance. With the spread of Platonism, Hermeticism, and Kabbalah in the fifteenth century, the identity of Christianity shifted and the boundaries between the different religions thinned. In response to this attempt to minimize the differences among the various religions, Luther reiterated the centrality and uniqueness of the salvific event of the cross. Confessional biases and theological prejudices have obliterated the role that Platonism, Hermeticism, and Christian Kabbalah played in the early Reformation debates. The author reconstructs these controversies and situates Luther's theology of the cross in this historical context." --

Corals have thrived on the bottom of the ocean for millions of years. These fascinating animals are currently forced to cope with the rapid changes caused by humans to avoid extinction. How are corals changing their way of processing energy from different sources? What do we know about the corals living in the unseen depths of certain seamounts? What is the impact of oil spills and what can we do? How are coral reefs all over the world to be restored? What is the socioeconomic importance of these habitats, and what do we gain or lose with their survival or their demise? By involving scientists and conservationists from different areas of the world, this book answers these and other questions about corals, the habitat they form, and the influence that we have on them.

Ductility and Formability of Metals: A Metallurgical Engineering Perspective uses metallurgical, mechanical and physical principles and concepts to explain ductility while emphasizing the influence of material microstructure on damage mechanisms. Focusing on steel, aluminum, copper, titanium and magnesium alloys, the book examines the strain hardening behaviors of these metals and alloys, the influence of strain rate and temperature, and ductile fracture mechanics. Hot plastic deformation is covered with special consideration given to its interplay with recrystallization phenomena. Other phenomena such as Dynamic Strain Ageing (DSA) and Adiabatic Shear Banding (ASB) are discussed, and metal working applications such as forging, extrusion and machining are included throughout. Methods for control of ductile cracks in metal parts resulting from rolling, forging, extrusion, drawing, and sheet metal forming are also outlined. Provides an overview on the plastic deformation behavior and ductile fracture of steel, aluminum, copper, titanium and magnesium alloys Illustrates the influence of microstructure on yield behavior, strain hardening of metals, and the influence of strain rate and temperature Covers the role of the strain hardening coefficient (n), strain rate index (m), Dynamic Strain Ageing (DSA), and Adiabatic Shear Banding (ASB) Metalworking applications are provided throughout, including forging, rolling, extrusion, wire drawing, sheet metal forming and machining.

'The Foundation of Complex Evolving Systems' seeks to offer an integrated analysis of the anatomy and physiology of the capitalist engine of generation and exploitation of technological organisational and institutional innovations - from the drivers of knowledge accumulation, to the modes in which such knowledge is incorporated into business firms, all the way to the processes of innovation-driven 'Schumpeterian competition' and macroeconomic growth. In that, it advances the interpretation of such patterns, in terms of economies seen as complex evolving systems.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Geosynthetics (12 ICG), held in Roma, Italy, 17-21 September 2023. About 750 Authors - Academics, Researchers, Students, Practitioners, Contractors and Manufacturers - contributed to the peer-reviewed papers of this volume, which includes the Giroud lecture, the Bathurst lecture, the Rowe lecture, four keynote lectures and 296 technical papers. The content of these proceedings illustrates the sustainable use of geosynthetics in a variety of innovative as well as consolidated applications. After the sustainability implications in the correct use of geosynthetics, the ability to overcome the natural events effects, often related to the climate change, and to adequately afford the human activities (as the increase of pollution) forced to refer to a new keyword: Resiliency. The 12 ICG intends to become the base for the next step, hence the conference theme is 'Geosynthetics, Leading the Way to a Resilient Planet'. The conference topics, through general and parallel sessions, invited presentations and keynote lectures, address the most recent developments in geosynthetic engineering, and stimulate fruitful technical and scientific interaction among academicians, professionals, manufacturers, students. The 12 ICG proceedings contain a wealth of information that could be useful for researchers, practitioners and all those working in the broad, innovative and dynamic field of geosynthetics.
