Peter de Rivo (c.1420–1499), a renowned philosopher active at the University of Leuven, is today mostly remembered for his controversial role in the quarrel over future contingents (1465–1475). Much less known are his contributions to historical chronology, in particular his attempts to determine the dates of Christ’s birth and death. In 1471, Peter made an original contribution to this long-standing discussion with his Dyalogus de temporibus Christi, which reconciles conflicting views by rewriting the history of the Jewish and Christian calendars. Later in his career, Peter tackled the issue of calendar reform in his Reformacio kalendarii Romani (1488) and engaged in a heated debate with Paul of Middelburg on the chronology of Christ. This book edits the Dyalogus and Reformacio and sets out their context and transmission in an extensive historical introduction.

This book presents the study and critical edition of one of the oldest obituaries preserved for a Portuguese collegiate church - the Medieval Obituary of St. Bartholomew of Coimbra. Written on an extraordinarily complex calendar, where all the elements of the calculation of the Catholic liturgical year, the invocation of the main saints, martyrs and confessors of the Church, the ritual orientations of the daily office as well as some profane and superstition elements take place, this document projects us into mental pictures and structures of thought, of living time and religion fundamental to the understanding of Western civilization. In turn, the identification of the deceased to be celebrated daily in the church of São Bartolomeu de Coimbra and the property bequeathed by them, for the maintenance of the funeral ceremonies, allows us to observe that parish, its space and its population, for over two hundred years.

Stories of human lives can be fascinating but frequently difficult to index well. The new, updated fourth edition of Hazel K. Bell's Indexing Biographies is a valuable guide to the points for consideration when indexing life histories, biographies, autobiographies, letters and other narrative texts.Topics include the indexing of fiction, analysis of the text before indexing, names and their various forms, appropriate language choice for index entries, impartiality of the indexer, and how to treat main characters (through appropriate subheading structure) and minor characters (where strings of locators are sometimes unavoidable). The book also discusses more technical matters of index layout, presentation and arrangement of entries, such as how to judge whether alphabetical, chronological, page order or thematic grouping is most appropriate for the text.Examples of good practice and outstanding indexes are provided throughout. Lists of useful reference works and relevant articles from The Indexer journal are also suggested. There is, of course, a comprehensive index.Indexing Biographies contains fine advice on best indexing practices for book indexers, trainee indexers, authors, publishers and all lovers of life histories. It is an excellent overview of the complex, important and rewarding task of indexing such material.

Geologic Time Scale 2020 contains contributions from 80+ leading scientists who present syntheses in an easy-to-understand format that includes numerous color charts, maps and photographs. In addition to detailed overviews of chronostratigraphy, evolution, geochemistry, sequence stratigraphy and planetary geology, the GTS2020 volumes have separate chapters on each geologic period with compilations of the history of divisions, the current GSSPs (global boundary stratotypes), detailed bio-geochem-sequence correlation charts, and derivation of the age models. The authors are on the forefront of chronostratigraphic research and initiatives surrounding the creation of an international geologic time scale. The included charts display the most up-to-date, international standard as ratified by the International Commission on Stratigraphy and the International Union of Geological Sciences. As the framework for deciphering the history of our planet Earth, this book is essential for practicing Earth Scientists and academics.

The contextual analysis of find contexts from the excavations that were conducted in the area of the lower Embolos (Curetes Street) resulted in a new understanding of about one thousand years of use (3rd century BCE – 7th century CE). They relate to the design and the route of the street, the building history of the construction along its edge and its varied function.
