This book aims to provide readers with the latest and relevant trends in corrosion. Use of inhibitors is one of the most common, cheap, and globally followed methods for the protection of metals from aggressive solutions. The information contained in this book covers different corrosion inhibitors for different corrosive environments with sufficient experimental data, surface studies, and theoretical studies. These studies altogether will give readers a good view of the basic and advanced knowledge of corrosion inhibitors and will be of interest to students, academicians, and industrialists.

The problem of corrosion caused by external currents (electrocorrosion) is a timely issue, especially for electrochemical plants of chemical and non-ferrous metallurgical branches of industry, in which the influence of leakage currents coming from electrolytic baths is unavoidable. This book consolidates coverage of the subject into a single work, providing methods and means for keeping metals in a passive state and for estimating the corrosion stability of metallic structures. Extensive examples of corrosion protection systems round out this comprehensive volume.Features/ Benefits

This volume provides perspectives on the approaches, mechanisms, test methods, durability considerations, and environmental concerns for contamination mitigating coatings and polymers with emphasis on their use in more extreme aerospace and marine terrestrial environments. Parts of the Volume are devoted to application of biomimetics to contamination mitigation polymeric coatings, low ice adhesion surfaces, insect residue adhesion resistance coatings, and marine biofouling mitigation materials. By juxtaposing ice insect, and marine mitigation approaches, researchers and users may more easily identify threads of similarity that will assist in future developments and potential applications in these areas. The volume is of interest to chemists and material scientists in providing awareness of both the need for efficacy in mitigating contamination and for appropriate coating durability; to physicists in providing better understanding of the interaction between the contaminant, the coated surface, and the surrounding environment; and to engineers in describing the need for better scale-up tests between laboratory and field environments.

This book focuses on strengthening and joining materials by means of plastic deformation, gathering extended research papers presented at the AIMTDR 2016 conference. Plastic deformation is used in materials processing to improve the strength of the material. For example, the rod/screw used to connect the cooker handle to the main body has to be strong and sustainable; such rods can be strengthened by plastic deformation (using multi-stage forming operations etc.). Similarly, joining by means of plastic deformation is highly valuable since it avoids the material and environmental degradation often caused by fusion welding processes. The book discusses various processing techniques in which plastic deformation is used to strengthen materials – e.g. in equal channel angular extrusion, autofrettage etc., or to join materials without melting them – e.g. in friction stir processing, riveting etc. Offering an extensive guide, the book includes chapters on roll bonding, equal channel angular pressing, autofrettage, friction stir processing/welding, magnetic pulse welding, and riveting – processes used to strengthen and join a variety of materials for lightweight applications and sustainable manufacturing. The contents of this book will be useful to researchers and practitioners alike. .

This book presents a comprehensive study of all important aspects of tribology. It covers issues and their remedies adopted by researchers working on automobile systems. The book is broadly divided in to three sections, viz. (i) new materials for automotive applications, (ii) new lubricants for automotive applications, and (iii) impact of surface morphologies for automotive applications. The rationale for this division is to provide a comprehensive and categorical review of the developments in automotive tribology. The book covers tribological aspects of engines, and also discusses influence of new materials, such as natural fibers, metal foam materials, natural fiber reinforced polymer composites, carbon fiber/silicon nitride polymer composites and aluminium matrix composites. The book also looks at grease lubrication, effectiveness and sustainability of solid/liquid additives in lubrication, and usage of biolubricants. In the last section the book focuses on brake pad materials, shot peening method, surface texturing, magnetic rheological fluid for smart automobile brake and clutch systems, and application of tribology in automobile systems. This book will be of interest to students, researchers, and professionals from the automotive industry.
