Endoscopy is a fast moving field, and new techniques are continuously emerging. In recent decades, endoscopy has evolved and branched out from a diagnostic modality to enhanced video and computer assisting imaging with impressive interventional capabilities. The modern endoscopy has seen advances not only in types of endoscopes available, but also in types of interventions amenable to the endoscopic approach. To date, there are a lot more developments that are being trialed. Modern endoscopic equipment provides physicians with the benefit of many technical advances. Endoscopy is an effective and safe procedure even in special populations including pediatric patients and renal transplant patients. It serves as the tool for diagnosis and therapeutic interventions of many organs including gastrointestinal tract, head and neck, urinary tract and others.

The inflammatory procceses of pancreatic gland can be acute and chronic. Acute pancreatitis constitutes the majority of cases requiring hospital admission in gastroenterology. We are yet to discover many things about its pathophysiology, which is a certain drawback for the progress in its treatment. Prediction of severity is necessary for the management plan. However, our progress in the field was significant in the recent decade and a leap forward is expected in this cumbersome condition which has many unmet needs. Chronic pancreatitis is a progressive inflammatory disease characterized by debilitating pain and pancreatic insufficiency. Although medical treatment and endoscopic interventions are primarily offered to patients with chronic pancreatitis, approximately around 50% will ultimately require palliative surgery.

This text provides a practical guide for the diagnostic surgical pathologist in evaluating tumors involving the liver. It comprehensively covers the histological findings and key clinical and molecular correlates of liver tumors. The focus is on material that is most relevant to the actual practice of liver pathology including those aspects that are directly relevant to the diagnosis, subtyping, and prognostication of hepatic adenomas specimens, including biopsy specimens and surgical resections. The book will teach pathologists how to avoid common diagnostic pitfalls. Each chapter uses or discusses the nomenclature and classification system of liver tumors as per the current WHO classification of liver tumors. Each chapter fully incorporates the most up-to-date diagnostic methodologies, including immunohistochemistry and molecular methods. The text is richly illustrated with beautiful color images that highlight not just the “average” histological findings for a given entity, but also fully illustrate all of the key histological variability. Gross images are also included to highlight important diagnostic features. Tables are used judiciously to present summary information that allows a quick review on how similar entities compare and contrast. In addition, the clinical significance of various diseases are discussed in a focused fashion that highlights how pathology information is being used to make key clinical management decisions. Surgical Pathology of Liver Tumors will be of great utility to surgical pathologists and surgical pathologists in training as well as clinicians involved in the care of patients with liver tumors, particularly hepatologists and oncologists.
